Its a quiet night in the NHL and so I was reflecting on Sundin’s 500th career goal from 2006. It was an incredible goal, as it was the overtime winner (I believe 15th of his career), it was also his hatrick goal (his 8th of his career), and his 500th goal of his career. Spectacular way to finish the game, and when I watched it live I think I jumped off the couch!
What other goals, or shutouts or moments in NHL history have multiple layers of impact?

[This](https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/flashback-to-marty-st-louis-and-the-greatest-mothers-day-goal-in-nhl-history/amp/) goal nearly had me sobbing. It was like a day or two after Marty’s mom passed away and he decided to play in the game because he said she would’ve wanted him to. He then buried this crucial goal for the rangers. Oh and did I mention it was Mother’s Day?
Mario Lemiuex’s final goal on home ice before his first retirement.
When he first retired, he said he was frustrated because he felt he couldn’t play to the best of his abilities the previous few seasons… in his last two seasons, he had 283 points in 146 games.
Doug Gilmour may have scored the winning goal for Calgary in 1989, but Lanny McDonald’s goal is the one that will always be remembered by fans.
Crosby’s Golden Goal (assisted by Iggy!) is a hockey moment I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.
Jesus. He was only like 5’ from the blue line too. Spectacular shot
I was a kid when Sundin played, and I thought it was the weirdest thing that his first name is Mats. That’s what I remember most about him.
Oshie getting a hat trick after his dad died
When Burrows slayed the dragon. We couldn’t beat the Blackhawks. We’d lost to them in the playoffs 2 years in a row. We were up 3-0 in the series and they came back to tie 3-3. Game 7 went to OT and everyone in Vancouver had their asshole clenched. The sense in relief in Vancouver when that goal went in was unimaginable. Of course it all went to shit a few weeks later.
Daniel and Henrik Sedin combining for the OT goal in the final home game of their careers felt like one of those moments that couldn’t have been drawn up any better (I’m biased because I’m young enough for them to have been Canucks for my entire life up until they retired, so anything they did felt extra special to me, but I digress).
Kuznetsov’s Game 6 OT winner to get the Caps to the Conference Finals and past the Penguins in the 2017/2018 playoffs. “The Demons have been exorcised!”
Martinez game winning Stanley cup goal! Jazz handzzzzz
“Gretzky had it, lost it…”
IYKYK.
The one I’ll always remember is Pat Maroon in game 7 2OT. Local kid breaks the deadlock against another guy who grew up in STL, Ben Bishop, and his **52** saves
Or another one, Carl Gunnarson in OT in game 2 of the finals. He had a shot from the point that almost went in judt before then end of regulation. In the intermission, he’s taking a piss next to Craig Berube, and tells him he just needs one more chance. Gunnarson gets his chance and scores
For me, Patrice Bergeron 2 goals in 2013 vs the leafs in game 7, to tie and then win in ot
Shorthanded OT hat trick for #500. I couldn’t believe it when it happened. I miss that guy so much.
Helm at 5.6 in the 3rd against the Blues in Round 2 of the most recent Cup run. We had the “crash out in the 2nd round” monkey firmly on our backs, if there had been OT St. Louis would have been 1 goal and 1 game away from it happening again. Forget either of Lehky’s series-winning goals, forget Kadri’s SCF OT goal, forget Nate going coast to coast for that *insane* goal in Game 5. Hełm killed the monkey. He won us that Cup.
Patrick Kanes Stanley cup winner against Philly.
The Stanchion
Stamkos… one real shift, one game, one goal. Doesn’t get better than that. Dallas never saw it coming.
Brock McGinn, game seven vs the Caps.
This goal more than the Williams empty netter. This goal more than the Francis goal in 02.
This goal proved the process. This goal reinvigorated and entire fan base that had given up years before. It’s been 6 years since this goal and the results are undeniable.
Feel free to wipe your tears, we won’t judge.

Stevie Y from just inside the blue line over the Blues in 2OT.
unpopular but every goal the jets score vs nashville in 2018 playoffs meant so much for the town of winnipeg
Dave Boland’s goal right after tying it against Boston in the Stanley Cup final 1 minute earlier. The game and series winner.
