One of my favorite stories!

Since it’s not game day I wanted to share this since it came up on my Facebook memories today.

I live in Mississippi and made a trip to Detroit 8 years ago today for a game. I discovered that the people from this subreddit were planning on playing some pickup hockey at the Joe that same weekend. I didn’t have time to bring my gear, but the guy organizing the event said it would be fine to bring my skates and just skate a few laps between sessions.

To this day, walking the back halls of the Joe and skating a few laps on that ice by myself is one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. My wife managed to snag a few pictures, and then we just walked around the arena, soaking it all in.

Long story short, I wish I could remember who set it up, but if you’re still around, thank you.

    Cheers!

It was a dream to skate at The Joe. 12 arenas later, it’s still the best ice I’ve ever skated on.

COVID and career changes sidelined us, but we are hoping to get back underway in the fall!

I appreciate your taking the time to post 🙂

I went to the first 2 rent the Joe events. It feels really great to have gotten in there to skate a few more times before they demolished the place.

Too bad we are never able to do it at LCA due to the event schedules but honestly I’m not even sure it’d be as cool. The history of LCA is nothing compared to JLA, and you could feel it when you were walking through the place.
