What’s going on everybody welcome into the Pod at the palace or officially the pod in the portal because we got a splash finally finally man we’ve been waiting on this uh it feels good to actually have something happen and uh here we are Josh Cohen the UMass Ford

Who visited a little bit earlier in the week has officially announced his commitment to Arkansas the muscleman Le Razer backs are on the board uh man there you go we’ve been kind of waiting around all day wondering if this was going to happen when it might happen uh

And finally it pops and and man like shout out to Josh Cohen for doing this as a good time like we can still be home in time for dinner yeah absolutely I don’t want to make a good Friday joke but it was a good Friday for Arkansas

Basketball like just a it it Curtis like honestly it felt like for a long like for a good while today like we were just monitoring the latest guys that Arkansas was going to contact we didn’t even know if we were going to do a show y um and then you

Know Cohen said he was with it and we’re with him we’re with it too um happy to have him on board like this uh was really impressed with him the other day when we talked to him and I think he’s I think Arkansas fans are really going to

Like him yeah me too the the only thing about it and I’m just I’m just being honest here like this makes me feel like I’m gonna have to up my my swag and my drip a little bit like we we’ve talked about the wrist work manless around here um like I’m

Going to have to like I’m I’ve got I’ve got no accessories right now and honestly like the way he was wearing that watch like I don’t even think I can get away with an Apple Watch anymore hey here you go I’ll do something here we go

Yeah get the get the chain going a little bit uh no like Cohen is uh Cohen’s a good dude like I I really think that the Razer back fans are going to enjoy him he was a pleasure to talk to and I know we’ve mentioned it on a

Show earlier in the week but uh you know everybody’s a little bit different in terms of how they how they handle Recruitment and media and everything like that um and it was kind of a breath of fresh air honestly uh just in terms

For us to be able to go in there and not only get an opportunity to talk to him for a little bit but he was just so open about it it was like hey you guys want to you guys want to sit down and chat

Yeah and uh and you rarely get that and he was open he was honest and uh just a really sharp mature dude and I think he’s going to bring a lot to the locker room in terms of being a good teammate and and being a good leader and we’ll

Talk about his game in a minute but was just really impressed with his Personality yeah I was too and he um you know we’ve talked about his swagger like his his wrist is always got some action thing’s thing um you know nice Chain Gang chain game based on what I’ve seen

On his uh on his Instagram and yeah I’m I’m excited about what he’s going to bring on the floor but he like the thing that I I came away with the other day was just like how sure of himself he was and confident um and he just like he’s

Very comfortable being who he is and being his own person U playing his own game um I think Arkansas fans are going to if they don’t already appreciate him they’re going to to grow to appreciate it and Josh has been you know he’s been pretty active on Twitter since he since

His commitment he responded to to you under your link to this live stream oh very good there we go yeah we always appreciate that you uh you need to be a guest on the show here ASAP my man got get absolutely and he put his uh college basketball scouting highlight tape watch

In like a separate in a separate tweet so go get familiar with him um yeah 610 what 220 yeah forward yeah yeah it’s going to bring some good things to the roster and he’s he’s every bit of that 610 220 and I know we talked about that

After we uh we saw him on his visit um a lot of times like you you take a lot of that with a grain of salt especially uh you know at mid- major programs and stuff like listen I I coached NI at basketball for a long time

Like if you were 66 you’re 68 on my roster you know like if you’re 68 you’re 610 in shoes on my roster no he’s he’s 610 maybe a little bit taller than that honestly so um good to see you know you like you like that kind of size Arkansas

Obviously has uh you know kind of a kind of a bare front cord so this is a great addition I mean you look over at at um you know on three.com and their recruiting rankings they got him as the number five available Center um in the portal right now we talked about how

There were over 1300 guys in the portal um between you know D1 and D2 and only 42 of them qualified as centers so not many and and you get a top five one this early that’s a good thing I saw Jeff Bello over at espn.com had as the number

13 available overall player in the portal so that’s with a lot of kids that on tournament teams in the portal tooo yes and he’s still considered to be well up there yeah no doubt about it I mean we’re talking about a guy here um who’s

I mean he scored over 1600 points in his career he’s had multiple 40-point games like he’s said he can go get it he can go get some buckets so um you think about some of the things that Arkansas is going to be replacing in the front

Court uh I think about from a from an offensive and scoring standpoint think about the kind of pop that you had with Jaylen Graham and there’s there some differences in their games but there’s some similarities there too in terms of you put them on the Block and dump it in

There and let them go to work and they can get you a bucket and that’s the kind of guy that you have here with Cohen he showed some range this season that’s that’s a part of his game that’s developed uh knocked down more threes

Than he ever has and and shot it at a decent clip there so uh a nice piece and he’s a smart player man I mean I I you know muscleman really enjoys those guys who can operate in dribble handoff can operate in the ball screen um have some

Sense in terms terms of short rolling he’s going to be able to provide all those things I think he’s going to be a good fit you think about you know ah how did they really utilize the back to the basket bigs well uh we’ve seen some of

That in the past but that’s not all Cohen can do I actually think he’s going to be a really nice fit here as a as a passer a facilitator and a guy that he can throw it into and let him score for sure and you know you mentioned the the

Jayen Graham you know scoring pop that that he could provide I think that really accurate um one thing that when I reached out initi to the Pedro sorus kid that covered Josh at at UMass um you know he he gave Josh a lot of credit for

Being a guy who you know in his first three years in college at St Francis he took he only took two threes and he missed them both but he gets to to UMass and then he goes 11 for 32 which you’re probably thinking not a lot of volume

Not a ton of makes uh but that’s pretty solid for for 610 like in 11 for 32 by the way almost 35% yeah he shoot about shooting about one per game shot 35% three-point shooter at the Five Spot is pretty solid and if you want like some

Context for that it’s about twice as many as Chandler Lawson put up last year and that’s exactly what we wanted Chandler Lawson to do was put up about twice as many as he as he actually did yeah but I think Josh can bring some of that too yes no that’s that’s exactly

Right I 100% agree with that um yeah you know I I I feel good about this one I think it’s going to be a good addition um I do think that people are going to going to enjoy watch watching him play u and and the numbers speak for themselves

And you know you think about where he’s coming from and you know a mid- major program but listen UMass uh it’s a a school that won 20 games this season they finish in the top four the Atlantic 10 the A10 is arguably I mean it’s one

Of the top what two or three mid- major conferences in the country you think about Dayton coming out of there you think about what loyala Chicago’s done um you know Duane who who won a game in the NCAA tournament so a lot of good programs in there in that League yeah

And they were top four um in won 20 games and if you go look at Ken pom and their in their player rankings in that league and he’s a top five top five player in that League um and that doubles down off of of what he did at St

Francis which just put up put up a lot of numbers when we talked about he scored 1600 points in his career so uh a nice get for the Arkansas uh Razer backs and just to look at you know some of his stats uh from last season and we said it

Before but I’m going to say it again I got to throw it in here like coached by Frank Martin dude yeah like if you can handle that um you’re a guy who can handle coaching and some tough love and that’s uh that’s exactly what what I think Arkansas needs here but 15.9

Points 6.8 boards 1.7 assists per game uh 54.4% shooting from the field that’s that’s efficient nearly 70% of the charity strip not bad there for a big man so um yeah it’s a it’s nice we got another new we got another Jersey guy on the roster right so there you go for

Sure yeah I see a comment here uh from from Brooks Jones does but does he have win wining DNA I’m going to read a quote from the and if you listen to you know the interview that we did with Josh the other day you probably heard it but

There one thing that really stuck out like if you’re wor like if you’re like if you have a question like like like this one here uh Josh said ever since I’ve become a leader and become a Captain my teams have won so especially this year at UMass we woned a high level

And I don’t plan on stopping that wherever I go I want to win and do anything that it takes and so I mean he’s play for Frank Martin about to play for Eric muselman those two guys are are winners yeah um I mean I just I I love this I love this

This is a really good first Splash and I think like remember we were talking the other day about you know you said that you always you said that you like to have that first visit because you don’t know if it’s going to get to that second one sometimes yeah seems to me like

Arkansas made a heck of a first impression and that’s why I think it’s it’s another reason you like to have that first visit is you get to make the first impression yes um and I think it they must have their pitch must have really hit home with it man no doubt

About it yeah and that’s the one thing like you know the entire conversation that we had with him The Vibes we got you know from the Arkansas side felt really good about it but the only thing is I was like ah but he’s going to Notre

Dame the next day you know um and listen say what you want about Notre Dame as as a basketball program they’ve had a couple rough years here we know how that feels at Arkansas but they got a really good coach there in Shrewsberry um and

Just I mean even just looking at some of Josh’s Instagram posts and everything like that I mean nice facilities it’s a beautiful Campus U and so you know again I think you’re right Arkansas made a really good impression there uh you talked about that that winning mindset

And just kind of the competitive nature it’s interesting here from from sharkansas getting another New Jersey kit is Big think it helps caleff want to stay I I don’t know about that but it is interesting that you kind of think back to some of the uh like the post games we

Would have with KB throughout the course of the Season he would talk about how similar him and mus are in terms of their competitiveness yeah their will to win uh and I think that’s really what kind of created a bond between those two and just Josh really um he really exhibited

A lot of those traits when we were talking to him would agree um you know like he said everywhere you go on a visit they’ll talk about oh we’re trying to trying to make the NCAA tournament this that and the other but that mus was

Very much no I’m trying to get back to the elite eight and Beyond back to the you know trying to get to the final four we’re trying to do huge things here and then everything that Josh talked about was very similar like I don’t I don’t care it’s like whatever coach says

That’s what I want to do if it puts us in a position to win that’s exactly what you want to hear from guys and that’s how you start to build some camaraderie around the team and and going back to what we said about him being uh you know

A locker room guy as well and a leader because that’s another thing he said to us and just a again a very sharp guy in terms of hey I’m feeling everything out I’m weighing my options I’m seeing what these places have to offer um and then

You know I uh I’m going to make my decision once the decision is made that’s when the vision starts to come to fruition how can I lead in the locker room how can I contribute the best to winning um I don’t know I don’t know

We’re going to have to talk to him I don’t know if he was coached up on those responses but it was it was it was pretty damn impressive I got to be honest for sure I think Josh to me comes off as a guy that you know had spent his

First three years at St Francis you know probably had some team and individual success had probably some more team and individual success than he definitely um you know not to say not saying he was a solo act but you know an all A10 first team type guy so he you know contributed

From his standpoint to a team winning and now I think he just you know wants to wants to take that next step and try to do it on a bigger scale and yeah um yeah SEC SEC and at Arkansas is a good place to do that yeah like that the SEC

Is like LSU today got a cam Hunter um you know there are some schools like Florida who are in on you know like Kentucky and Florida are in on guys like Big Cliff that you you’ve talked about too so um yeah he’s going to be playing some Heavy Hitters next season for sure

And something tells me that part of his reason for committing to Arkansas and he told us flat out like mus was a a huge part of that and so again like for for all the you know the question marks and all this crazy stuff that’s been you

Know going on and speculation with mus uh they just landed a a big time transfer so enjoy your Easter weekend maybe but who knows what next week we’ll bring but enjoy your Easter weekend right but uh in all seriousness you know with Cohen one of the things he talked

About was like he hears people who uh might rag on his game or doubt his game a little bit and I think there’s a part of him that embellishes you know the idea of the challenge of playing in a different style like the SEC it’s known for its athleticism and their Pro

Prospects and the length and he’s going to be able to to kind of challenge himself against all those kind of guys sure and I just have a feeling he’s not going to be a guy that you outwork and it kind of takes me to the next point

Which we want to talk about what he brings to the Razer back as a as a player and his game is unique and he knows that he understands that and and we’ve talked about it uh a ton because we thankfully we had a had a pretty good

Hunch that he was going to be a guy that Arkansas was heavily pursuing uh so we were out ahead of it a little bit but at the end of the day um no is he the most athletic guy in the world no is he going

To rise up and and dunk it on your head over and over no um is he the fleet us the foot no but is he very skilled and very smart does he understand angles does he know how to create space and get his shot off uh does he know how to be

Effective which was the brilliant title In Your Story uh yes he absolutely does and if he didn’t U we wouldn’t be seeing what we’ve seen from him in terms of statistics and if you’re you’re wondering about the level of competition uh he’s done it consistently over the last couple years against every High

Major opponent he’s faced yeah no doubt and there’s a you know I’ll reach out to a lot of folks that have covered the kids that Arkansas’s contacted um and Pedro sorz he was he gave me a lot of really good insight and some of it I out Pedro some some of it I

Put in the transfer portal Big Board just in that player Insight section there was a paragraph that he sent me that I did not use and I wanted to save it for either a commitment story or this show this podcast and I saw somebody already in the I think it was

Sharkansas in the comments um said he you know his passing ability reminds me of of yic that’s exactly the path I’m about to go down um he said this is Pedro writing this as for what he was like to watch honestly was perplexing at times in a great way I always said he

Had a ton of nickola yic in his game a big bodied Center who can step outside in pass uses his frame well in post-ups has amazing footwork and is extremely skilled at finishing at the rim and some of the shots he’ put up in the into of

The hoop were just you know pretty unbelievable at times but yeah I think you can you can listen not saying that he’s Nicola yic like nobody on Earth is Nicola yic but there are um there are aspects of his game that are yic like like you know kind of the unorthodox

Nature of you know sometimes of the way that he gets shots up and I think passing is another way um you know that that they’re they’re similar and you know away from you know the unorthodox nature of their games but mhm um and you know Eric likes to utilize big guys at

The pinch post at the elbows Lov it man um yeah and I I was watching some I think some film of when Josh was at St Francis he’s got a nice little elbow jumper M he does um and I would you know probably anticipate that you know he

Utilizes that at Arkansas too yeah um and if you’re wondering about him you know defensively that was one of the things there that uh was was including those comments where early in the season like Frank Martin was very very critical in terms of of his pick and roll defense

His ball screen defense but he got better and better and better as the season progressed and then he was equally complimentary down the stretch of the season on how much he’d improved yeah and became an asset there so uh that’s a that’s a good sign and like

Listen um is he going to be switchable and be able to guard five positions no is anybody else that they’re going to get in the front Court going to be able to do that probably not so U understand what you’re what you’re getting here and

And um with big man at a premium I just think this is a fantastic get and I you know do I do I think that that Josh is going to be uh the next you know Zack Edy or or Donovan kingan or whatever uh probably not don’t tell him I said that

Uh but is he going to be a very valuable contributor and and a piece that I absolutely think is going to be a key cog in the rotation for Arkansas you bet your ass I believe that so um I’m excited about it I think it’s a great

Start for Arkansas um and and I think he’s going to be a a very valuable addition to the team for sure yeah I do too I um I just I can’t under State like like if you can play for Frank Martin man there’s not many coaches in

The country that you can’t play for this is true and Eric muscleman is another one of those guys who is very very very extremely demanding of guys on the defensive end of the floor um contrary to what you may have thought you know late last season when you know Arkansas

Was just in shootouts with everybody um but I I have this I just have a hunch like after you know Eric dissects the previous season identifies what he wants in the portal moving forward um and I think you know I think Josh has got a lot of ability and potential on the

Defensive end like it and it might just be you know just being really solid hold your ground guy in postup defense and defensive rebounding like it might not be taking charges like Jaylen Williams are blocking shots like a defensive player of the year candidate but it’s

Just a guy who’s just really solid um defensively stands out you know for the right reasons and not all the wrong reasons which could get you sent to the bench so um really good first piece in the portal I’m I’m excited about Josh yeah oh no absolutely and uh yeah Josh

Even this morning he kind of woke me up Cale battle congratulations for being my alarm this morning yeah you you retweeting Caleb was actually my alarm yeah cuz he’s he’s popping off these tweets like before 7:00 in the morning and obviously I’ve got his noties on because we’re kind of waiting to see

Exactly what he’s going to do I think he’s probably going to test the waters and then uh maybe figure out if he’s going to return or not but uh yeah he’s putting out all these tweets about just you know feeling blessed and you know everything like that and I’m just like

This is great I’m going to retweet it but damn it like what I mean U but I know Arkansas would love to have KB back we talked about Tron Mark the other day just in terms of he’s kind of retweeting the Arkansas Edge stuff and the nil

Stuff and I’m like if I knew for sure that I was going to be out of here I probably wouldn’t care about doing that so uh that tells me and it’s just connecting dots that maybe he’s uh at least considering a return and after some of the things he did this season

Like you you would love to have that uh so we’ll see but obviously everybody’s excited about the transfer portal and and what could be to come there um and I think you got to just continue to look at at at several of the guys that we’ve identified uh in the past here as

Priorities you know I think about um our darn stone dbar at hastra a guy who’s a top 20 transfer 68 210 lbs we’ve talked about it he’s got kind of a weird release on that jumper pulls it out of his left pocket as Scotty likes to say

But man uh 40% three-point shooter the last couple years and and he gets it done in volume he would be a really really nice addition I know that they’ve been working on a visit there um I think that would be a pretty good place to start but I mean you keep on thinking

Down the line like Kean Hall out of George Mason we’ve got him listed as as a Justin Smith build because he’s 67 230 PBS which is essentially the exact same measurements he’s got a lot of that in his game where he’ll post up face up he’s pretty crafty around the rim but he

Can operate on the perimeter a little bit too uh knock down what 40 some OD threes this season got a little bit of a Tony to him as well out of George Mason uh they had Justin Smith build with an AIS Tony type game yeah you guys like

The sounds of that yeah I think that sounds pretty good right absolutely and and so and they had a they had a zoom with him today and and I’m told that that happened it’s concluded and the entire Razorback staff was involved in that so you know um always good when the

Whole staff is involved that’s that’s always a good thing right and you keep going down the list you know like we know that Arkansas has been prioritizing guys like Tyron Lawrence out of Vanderbilt a four-year guard in the SEC who uh should be on that board somewhere

Right behind you yeah just the other side yeah Malik Dia out of Belmont the big fella 69 240 who can step out and shoot threes um I mean you can continue go on Des Shane Montgomery a guy that we haven’t talked about much this past week

But uh we know that Arkansas went out to see his his dad must went out to see his dad uh last weekend in Florida and this is a guy who was a a conference Rookie of the Year at Mount St Mary’s um you know tough tough player 64 guard just

Name after name after name that can continue to be a possibility there and the exciting part about it if you’re Razorback fans who love portal SE they have no choice but to add a ton of guys here like they have no choice but to add about 8 to 10 guys it’s just the

Way it’s going to be so yeah uh it keeps on cooking man I’m I’m pretty uh pretty excited about the possibilities um what I will say though and and I’m glad that they finally had something pop here because sure you know how it is like we we’ve been hearing for probably the

Better part of a week like on some different people but like hey keep an eye on this one keep an eye on that one um and that’s great and and some things haven’t come to fruition some things it might be just a little bit of waiting time in terms of

Logistics but at the end of the day what I will give Arkansas credit for is they’re not making any uh rushed decision decisions they’re being uh they’re not being reactive to some things that are going on in the portal yeah and I appreciate that from them and

The other thing I know is they’re placing a premium on doing deep Dives background checks and just making sure sure that the guys who are their priorities are fits and High character guys who are going to be able to to have the best opportunity come

Together and play as a team yeah and so in terms of timeline does that make things drag out a little bit longer and maybe you’d like to have two or three guys right now instead of just one sure but will you be more pleased with the

End product if they go that route I I think you probably will and I I think that’s that’s smart um on their part to remain patient and be thorough and maybe add an extra extra layer to what they’re doing in terms of uh the recruiting process here

Yeah and you know like this these last two weeks man they’ve been kind of this kind of added free time that they have where they’re not f with the staff’s not focused on games is probably just foreign or you know new territory um but using it to their advantage to to do

Those deep Dives on guys and just make sure that the guys that they’re contacting and getting on campus or whatever are real fits are really really going to be impactful for him I think also the next step in the portal and um Arkansas staff may disagree with this

But you just you got to make sure that JP pagis doesn’t wind up at aumn yeah you definitely have to do that in south or South Carolina like he might just he might just be Mei Johnson’s replacement at South Carolina well in Arkansas might just get me Johnson or he could be Aiden

Holloway’s replacement at offera that’s an upgrade I would man yeah definitely um you would hate to see it yeah you would hate to see it what do you think would be next like if you had to put your prognosticator goggles on is it like a wing or like a floor General

Type guy next potentially well and let me start by saying this um Arkansas has landed a transfer Ford they are not done in the front Court not by any stretch of the imagination they’re going to add at least a couple CLE more guys in the

Front Court uh what do I think is next I would probably lean towards um a big Wing who kind of fits that mold of what must said over and over and over what they might be missing yeah they need that Wing link that Wing link yeah so we

We’ve already talked about guys like dubar man he started saying that back in the Bahamas dude exactly uh I think that’s going to happen they’re going to have more than one of those guys but that that might be the next move uh but I I really do think that

Priority or or maybe the biggest key I think it’s so important that they get a true point guard in floor General I know they’re talking to a lot of Combos and guys who can shoot and create maybe at that offguard spot you can put the ball

In their hands but I really think that they missed a true point guard this season um who can be a table setter and distribute and get guys involved uh when you just have a brand new roster and so many guys who you like males to be fed

And guys who are trying get assimilated into their role you got to have somebody who can put them in those spots and I think they miss that this year and it can and it doesn’t have to be you know the Home Run kind of guy it can be the

Jayen Tate type of guy yeah um who just understands the importance of of getting you know all Five Guys operating in sync and uh I don’t know who that’s going to be but they got to have one yeah I um we talk about a floor general or a

Real point like a true point guard is Jaylen T the closest that Eric’s had to like a true point guard but he doesn’t fit like the true point guard mold you know what I’m saying MH so that could very well end up being like a 64 version of jayen Tate like it’s

Probably not going to look like a traditional point guard yeah oh based on past like you’ve got like Jaylen Tate and then you know a couple seasons ago it was JD note who was let’s be honest he was a a a shooting guard yes um in every sense

Of the word yes um and just not like traditional point guard so I don’t they could go out and get that guy and he could end up being like their guy who brings the ball up the floor but based on what I know dude I don’t expect it

Particularly to look like a you know 62 180 PB kid oh yeah for sure I agree with that 100 perc I mean you you mentioned JD note if you think back to that year you know he did a bulk of the ball handling obviously because he’s like the

Only guard on the floor a lot of times unless they put dvo or likes in but Jaylen Williams was kind of the floor General in terms of directing traffic and distributing and everything else so like and he was the center on that roster yeah and so it could be like it

Could be any position honestly you would like it I mean ideally or whatever like if you’re building the uh the stereotypical lineup you would want it to be your point guard but it doesn’t have to be um I also wonder there are benefits to not having a 6 62 180 PB kid

Out there and having a yes you know 64 to 66 190b kid out there with a greater wingspan absolutely and I wonder you know like where is the exact priority right because we I just man I I feel like I keep putting myself on repeat but

It’s just the way it is like you think about those prototypes and mus is just like I’ve never seen someone so Love A 6667 versatile switchable Wing like Eric muselman does and uh and you found something in your life right and so if he gets like seven of those dudes and

You just put them out there on the floor he probably will and I don’t know if he places more of a premium on that over having a table setter or whatever I I don’t know what that would look like prefers Martin twins over JP piges types

I guess sure and so that’s that’s the thing and I look so when I look at these guys who they’re making contact with or whatever in the portal we’re trying to figure out if they’re serious or not um and maybe this will wind up being to to

Our own detriment and I I wind up getting surprised here but if it’s somebody who’s you know 5’11 or whatever I’m just kind of like eh probably not you know yeah it’ll be your backup guard yeah yeah so we’ll see and I also wonder what kind of Premium because I know
