  1. There are two things that drives Alexander Ovetchkin to accomplish in his career now:
    1. Beat Wayne Gretzky's season goal scores record.
    2. Compete in a final Olympic Games tournament to win a Olympic gold medal / or any OG medal = The only merit he don't have to become a prestigue Triple Gold Club member as his countryman Evgeni Malkin also wants. The Olympics of 2026 is though 2 years away and it is a very big doubt if his hunger can still be great enough to keep playing at age 40. Another problem is the political landscape if Russia will be back in the Olympics, or if the IIHF can sanction a Russian born NHL player team under such neutral flag
to give players like Ovetchkin & Malkin there final shot at winning any medal.
They have been ambasadors for hockey in over 2 decades and inspired thousands of kids to play the sport!

  2. I hope he breaks the record sooo bad. No reason other than it would be one of the greatest achievements in hockey history, maybe even sports considering the context of his career. 2 lock outs, pandemic shortened season, and playing in the dead puck era. I want to see it sooo bad

  3. Poor Gretz. In his final year with NYR he had no one to pass to. But he was a big part of their great playoff effort in Spring 1997. With Richter and Graves and Tikkanen and Messier.

  4. Your depth of knowledge is very impressive. I learn a lot watching your videos, and I've played hockey my whole life

  5. Let's not forget that Ovi has ONLY missed like 59 games throughout his 19 season career, thus far.
Also, I'm pretty sure there was a short Let's not forget that Ovi has ONLY missed like 59 games throughout his 19 season career, thus far.

Also, Ovi missed out on the 2004-2005 season due to NHL Lookout, then the 2012-2013 season started late due to another Lookout, and finally, the 2019-2020 season ended short and 2020-2021 started late due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If those things never happened, then Ovi would've already broken Gretzky's goal scoring record a while ago, and also would've had more than 1 60 goal season!

But still, its so impressive how little he has missed due to injury, illness, or healthy scratch.
This is a very rare trait amongst great players as usually they lack in that physical longevity.

  6. All of this is moot.. i hearld from the days of Rod Langway Scott Stevens and Mike Gartner. I have followed hockey since thoses day and i can tell you OVI is finnished . The play is to fast and requires to much accuracy for him to be effect . His stlye of play is ( franchise with an assistant) is being subplanted by entire teams playing as a focueds unit. The ironman player days are over.

  7. If the caps do make the playoffs I honestly don’t think it will be the last time we see him there. This team will be better next season.

This was a chaotic year for them, new coaches, new system and Murphy’s Law was basically rolling in full effect at the center position. A more stable situation will be good for them.

Keep developing those young guys, try to dump some rough contracts and hopefully get Ryan Leonard a shot. If things go right, it will be looking pretty good for them.

  8. Few players never got beat by father time, like Lidstrom. Dude just wanted to go home and raise his kids in Sweden. Probably could be playing with Jagr if he wanted to.

  9. I watched the last Leafs vs Caps game. Ovi had 2 goals from his office. Everyone knows where he likes to shoot from yet he still absolutely kills it from that spot.

  10. I am getting old. I remember the year he was drafted and was amazed how a kid my own age was blowing up the NHL. Now, the kids being drafted today are ACTUAL kids in my eyes haha.

  11. I’m a penguins fan and, they our rivals in many epic series. I hope ovi breaks the goal record.

  12. Ovi had to get a new stick this year, CCM stopped making the model he liked. Only recently getting a good feel again

  13. The loser points are ridiculous….too many teams with more than 10…..need to go to a 3-2-1 system

  14. To be completely honest I just thought he was going through a rough patch and didn’t expect the caps to do much this season

  15. I full on believe Ovi used to go back to the motherland to get "beefed up" before returning. With the war I doubt he's leaving the states during that time

  16. All the articles from the usual suspects basically calling Ovi (by virtue of his a being Russian who doesn't go out if his way to be a political asset to the entrenched establishment in Washington) a "serious problem" for the NHL… his refusal to parrot the kind of talking points the powers that be would him to vocalize, his unwillingness to be a propaganda tool almost invited some conspiracy theoeies that he was somehow being sabotaged in a way that might well have caused (or at least contributed) to such a drastic and abrupt decline in his performance – to the point where it was suddenly looking like Gretzky's record would be safe after all.

Who knows. I would like to think something so nefarious and petty would not be behind the sharp decline.
