Mcdonagh was a violent skater, offensive D when he started paired with Sweet (Michael Sauer) who had his career ended by a hit by Phaneuf. I was shocked when he didnt become another Hedman .
Trading him away to re-sign Cernak to that albatross was a horrible decision by JBB. Many fans wanted to trade Cernak and keep Mac because they saw how good his deal was. Nashville basically got a 1D for free and got to dump cap in the process.
Hands down one of the greatest shut down d men in the league over the last 20 years. Should be in the running every year for the norris, except for the fact the norris is a very tainted trophy and doesn't go to the best defenseman in the league but the d man with the most offensive contributions
