  1. Elias is an elite player in his prime. Now, the noise will quiet down, and he can just focus on getting his game back to where it was a month ago. I got to admit I started to doubt if maybe he wanted to move somewhere with sunny weather year round and probably better tax breaks. There might be some that say ,"Oh, he's not worth that kind of money." However, at his age and skill level, this is a fair deal. He's only going to be what 33 or 34 by the end of the deal. That's still an age where he's probably going to still have success in the league, and with the cap going up….. This is great news if you're a Canuck fan. The team has a one two punch down the middle and one of the best in the game in Hughes and Demko. That's a great foundation to work off of.

  2. For all the EP40 doubters out there, this contract is a good one, because of his young age; he's not 27-28 y/o, and little lower than expected AAV. It will age very well. That and any trade would have been a hard loss, no matter what they got back.

  3. So happy he signed with the Canucks long-term. I'm fine with the amount he signed for, although I'd like to see him step up his game.

  4. Don’t get me wrong I hope he does well. But for me he was a better player back then I hope with the signing behind him he can now just concentrate on playing hockey

  5. Too bad, I was hoping they would trade him for Necas and Kotkiemi.
Rutherford and Alvin like depth and are money ball executives.
The hit at 11.6 is better than I feared but as much as I like Peterson, he is not worth 3.6 million more than Miller. To win and stay a winner you need to be ruthless with contracts and this will mean some other player such as Boesser or Hronek is removed or Demko moves on when his deal is up.
Yes the contract is a good one but it has ramifications.

  6. First off Milsy is the franchise center. Second signing Petey to an 8 year is far worse than Benning and his 6×6 for Loui. This is a Franchise killer, and ensures more losing in the years to come. Hopefully it won't kill their playoff chances this year as Petey will have no excuse for his underperformance.

  7. He wants to win, he's never going to sign with the Canucks. After this contract ends he's going to want out of Vancouver. He want's to be traded to New Jersey to play with his brother….oops, wait. Every single person who typed stuff like that out can go pound sand today.

  8. Rutherford forced his hand on the deal, either accept it or be traded to Carolina. Carolina offer must have been good. Either way, have confidence with Rutherford if he traded Peterson away anyways. 11.6 is good as long as Peterson delivers

  9. I have a feeling, maybe overly optimistic, that this signing will allow Petey to relax and get back to top form.
