I think to assess this fairly you need to look at Shane Wright vs Suzuki. Would he come into this team and be the 1C? Definitely not at this point. So then you have a hypothetical 1OA 2C who may not actually be the 2C if Dach stays healthy and plays to his potential. So, you move Wright to the wing and hope he can do what Slaf is doing? I honestly don’t see it. He’s a perimeter guy just like Cole. He just doesn’t fit on this team like he would on Seattle, who doesn’t have a bonafide 1C right now.

I wish all the best to everyone who was drafted after Slaf, hope they do well (except against us), but I sure am glad we had the first pick and that Hughes made the right call. Cooley and Wright are fine players, they’ll just never be a guy who combines being a 6’3 225lb wrecking ball with the hands of a surgeon.

Look, I’m as thrilled as any Habs fan about the leaps Slaf has made this year but we don’t need to put down Wright. It’s tired and borderline toxic.

He proved us all wrong. I’m ashamed to admit I wanted wright and was sad we picked slaf in that draft. But boy am I happy we picked him. He was the best possible choice
