Getting to the 16th best team in the league shouldn’t be this fucking complicated
JoeSchmohawk93
He’s not wrong. We didn’t have expectations until two years ago and now we do. Overall, I think he’s been a good coach for us but holy shit, just rip off the band-aid Terry. If GMKA is the one that genuinely believes this team doesn’t need a coaching change next season then he should be fired too, without hesitation.

So at 0:17, he says he has been in this situation, and this process (his process) is all-natural. Uh, Donny, I hate to break it to you, but you have not been in this situation before and sure as hell have not guided a team to the other side of it. That’s the problem; Buffalo has a guy who’s never coached in the NHL playoffs at any level, leading a roster loaded with players who have never played in the NHL playoffs. It’s the blind leading the blind, running into walls for 82 games a season, hoping to find that playoff nut. No matter how many experienced vets you bring in you still have an issue at the top.
The fact that he feels the position of this team is “great” because of how bad the team was two years ago is a fireable offense in a well-run organization.

I feel like he’s essentially trying to say the “pressure is a privilege” thing McDermott does but it doesn’t come across well

Genuinely, why do you HAVE to go thru these things to get to the next level? Cause it feels like a lot of teams and players skip this step.

Expectations don’t mean squat if you don’t hold your team accountable table to them.

I don’t think he worded it poorly at all. I think wayyyyy to many fans had this idea of playoffs or bust in their heads for some reason. Them missing the playoffs by a point last year made people not be able to look our roster objectively for some reason. Expectations for the team are raising and that is good for them, but it doesnt mean they are a playoff calibur team.
The moves they made in the offseason clearly indicated they wanted to still be patient with the roster and keep developing. They were at best a bubble team this year that needed a lot of things to go right for them to make the playoffs. The bad goaltending at the start of the season, losing Quinn day one, Thompson’s hand injury, and all the other top 6 injuries we had, were things not going right for them.
Way to many Sabres fans are acting like our team is rotten to the core and our rebuild has failed, its dumb.

I like him but he has taken them as far as he can. Thank you for your coaching the kids now we need someone to take this experienced youthful team to the next level.

you can welcome expectations but you’re the one who set them so high and missed, what happened between now and then???
SuperStudMufin
i’m convinced terry just doesn’t care about the success of the sabres. how you can have a team miss the playoffs for 13 years, have a season where they regress, and the coach comes out and says he’s happy with where the teams at because there’s expectations now. jesus christ.

Next level…?!
Run a goddamned sweat-drenched practice.
…sorry, I blacked out for a minute.

So much of the fanbase shares this mentality with this guy. Fire him and let the silver lining fans go with him.

Can we please just get a new coach? This is an embarrassment at this point.

My first thought was… I can’t necessarily blame the guy for trying to paint things in a positive light to the media, he’s just run out of ways to spin it years ago and it’s coming out weird now. I’m not saying this to subvert expectations, but it’s a very young team and I don’t think the situation gets better if he comes out mfer’ing everyone. As cathartic as it’d be for the fans. If he wants his guys to be hopeful for the future and conduct themselves professionally, he needs to as well.
That being said, the message needs to be different behind the scenes and I don’t think it is. I’m ready to move on from this coaching staff.

He says what he says because he has a contract and has to front positivity. He can’t say KA didn’t do his job and get me certain players. Next year he better go Torts on these guys. No more baby steps.
About 3-4 wins away from playoffs again. Who knows… early goaltender situation misjudged or NOT sitting guys could have solved it there…. but whatever.

I am not a fan of this mentality.
