Phil Kessel Was Great! Until He Stopped Trying…

Kessel was quite the player, but fell off quite a bit towards the end. Let’s talk about it!

  1. I do think he's deserving of a spot in the Hall. Maybe not first ballot but almost certain all the same. I loved his contribution in the last Pittsburgh's two cups. Then, scoring 30-35 goals for the early 2010s Leafs, especially with how low scoring was in general at the time, is pretty much the equivalent of scoring shy of 50 for today's Coyotes or Blue Jackets.

  2. He didn't play on the first line in the 2016 Cup Run when he lead the team in scoring. He didn't play on the 2nd line either. Phil Kessel played on the greatest 3rd line in Stanley Cup History: the HBK – Line! With Nick Bonino at Center, Carl Hagelin and Kessel on he wings.

  3. Kessel was NEVER great. Just a lazy little spud riding coat tails. How do past teammates describe him? His sister is a better player than he is.

  4. What happened is he was playing on the worst team in the league….what the hell you expect?

  5. Dude was awesome player until time caught up with him. The Cancer didn’t help with the longevity. I’m going to go to 7-11 to get a hot dog and a blue power aid in honor of the man.

  6. Oh man, if I was him I would literally take league minimum just to get the last 8 points to get to the 1000 point mark. That would eat me alive and wouldn't be able to walk away 8 points short of 1k career points and would most def give him a very good chance at a hall of fame spot. Loved the way he played when he came to the pens and was awesome to watch. Was able to get him to autograph my cup jersey. Was not easy for him to sign tho and had to give him the cmon kessel, ur my favorite player lol. But he did stop and sign it which was awesome.

  7. it's a shame that he left toronto the way he did. Toronto management are absolute idiots for giving away for nothing, then he goes on to win multiple stanley cups and even outshine crosby on the pens his first cup with them.

  8. Phil Kessel simpley is not that hungry to win any longer, having won 3 Stanley Cup rings with 2 different teams (2x Penguins & 1x Golden Knights) seems to have him fed.
Then add 3x NHL All-Star player, Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 2007, participated in 2x Olympics + 2x IIHF WC with Team USA etc. so he feels at this stage he have not anything to fight for other then securing a NHL pay. He can always play in any European league team and still be on a respectble pro level if he really wants to play.
