It might come down to the goalies. Skinner is not the type of goalie you can rely on in tight games, as the Oilers offense will bail him out a good deal. Talbot was the starting goalie for the Oilers for 4 seasons('15 – '19). He was a workhorse, but the team was never supported at the time w/ good d-men and good team defense. Despite age 36, Talbot had a good bounce back season. His numbers would have ended better had he not been played in 54 games. Talbot has a good playoff track record, where Korpisalo last season had almost none and looked shell shocked at times against the Oilers.
While McDavid/Draisaitl/Hyman are offensive juggernauts, there are ways you can slow them down. TMac was awful in line match-ups and it was a big flaw of the Kings losing the two previous times to the Oilers. Kings coach Hiller is better in that regard.
X-factor could be PLD and Byfield of the Kings. For the Oilers, the key might be how playoff committed will their high-skilled forwards be to playing good team defense. I think this has a chance to go at least 6.
This is a coin toss.
Taking EDM in this one for the simple fact of them having put in their time and paid their dues in the playoffs. This is not the same EDM team from last year, or two years ago.
They had a real wake up call in the first couple months of the season, and I think it did them plenty of good. They are going to be a force this playoff. LA, or whoever they meet.
Unstoppable? Obviously not. No team is. Do they have potential for a finals appearance? Eh………… I think so. This team looks playoff built.
3rd times the charm for the Kings.
Gotta go Oilers in this one. Of course the Kings play that real obnoxious low event hockey style that can be a bitch to crack. Interesting matchup.
Both teams have questionable goaltending so It’ll be a high scoring one like last year. Offensively though I don’t know if the kings can handle the oilers, especially considering the oilers can roll 4 lines now. I’d still say Oilers in 6 or 7.
I'll take the Oilers in 5.
Yet another Oilers vs Kings matchup. They really need to change the playoff format, this is getting extremely tiresome.
oilers in 4. im sorry but they have the more mature group now sorry la.
You beautiful in that Jersey!!
The goal is to win the cup for the oilers not to beat any one specific team in the west. If the oilers are serious cup contenders they should make short work of the kings in 4, 5 games tops. We'll see how far they've progressed from the last 2 playoff runs.
Both teams are improved from last season. Should be a tough matchup, and I really can't see this going fewer than 6 games either way. Obviously rooting for my Kings. Hopeful they can pull this off finally.
LA's Key Players: Arvidsson, Byfield, Talbot, and Young D Corp.
Edmonton's Key Players: Other than McDavid.
McDavid will have his points no matter what, but the key will be shutting and/or limiting the rest of the forwards, especially Draisaitl and Hyman.
Kings has to score at least goals and pray the Oilers do not have offensive barrage each game. 😅
As a Kings fan, they're getting swept. The 1-3-1 seems to only be effective against the Canucks. That .200 win percentage with a 2-goal lead says it all. They fall apart when they fall back to the 1-3-1 after establishing a lead. 3+ goals gives them enough cushion to run out the clock. But two goals is rough especially if they get them early.
Oilers in 5
Kopitar and Danault will stymie the offensive difference. I think this is a first round exit for the Oil. Even though I am rooting for them.
Hopefully Edmonton can smash the trap or this one could get pretty rough
Kings are going to be motivated and have zero pressure. The pressure is sky high in Edmonton.
Kings in 7.
Go Kings Go
LETS GO OILERS
Oilers in 7
Oilers in 5
all these 'i am a kings fan, but…' comments. lol. tighten it up and get ready boys and girls. GKG.
GKG
Oilers can win this but it always gets rough. I hope there’s no major injuries for the next series
Kings will give us a series and even if we win it will be hard fought wins. Imo oilers got better this year and the kings got worse with depth and goaltending. I’m really hoping the oilers finally start with a game 1 win and wrap this thing up in 5 so we dont get too beat up.
It’s absolutely killing the oilers in the playoffs to always be playing catch-up in series for the next rounds.
This will be a good one for sure
Oilers in 6
Kings in 6 games!
You’re too kind, I don’t think we win more than one game, our PP is awful and our defence is very suspect, leaving Talbot out to dry often..😢
Go OILERS!
