Seth Jones exit interview rubs fans the wrong way

I understand that what he’s saying he’s objectively true, especially after such a poor season, but I feel like all we’ve gotten from Jones in his media appearances have been complaints about the state of the team. I’m not sure what he was looking at in thinking that this team wasn’t heading for an inevitable rebuild at the time that he signed his contract. These types of comments do nothing to endear him to a fanbase that he’s already struggled to win over.

And he wants to wear the C? He’s done absolutely nothing to prove that he deserves it. It’s an honor to wear the C, especially following someone as well respected as Toews.

Starting to hope he considers waiving his NMC…he clearly doesn’t want to be here and we don’t need that type of energy in a locker room of young guys trying to develop chemistry and a winning mentality. As Foligno has shown, it’s possible to showcase positivity, even in the midst of a losing season, while still making it clear that you want to do better and expect more from yourself and your teammates. Jones has done nothing to show he’s a proud Blackhawk besides cash his inflated paycheck each season.

Okay bud, then waive your NTC and fuck off somewhere else. At least then I won’t have to listen to CHGO jerk you off every post game stream.

  2. I mean, he’s not my favorite by any means, but at least he was honest and not blowing smoke.

  3. CoalTrain9224

Feelings mutual Jones, we don’t want you around for the rebuild either. CHGO tries to gaslight everyone into thinking he’s the best D man on the team based on everything but the simple eyeball test. Every shot he misses the net 5 feet wide of on the PP, every refusal to pass to Bedard, every defensive lapse because he thinks he’s a forward and gets caught behind the net in the opposing teams zone leading to a 2 on 1 for Vlasic.

    Waive your NTC and GTFO

maybe I’m biased as a fan of him, but i understand why he feels this way, Bowman thought after the covid year this team could make the playoffs consistently but obviously that failed

I just don’t know if he should be saying it publicly but at least he’s honest

He never takes accountability in his statements seems to put most of the blame on the team most of the Time while excluding himself. I’ve noticed this a lot this year

  7. Raseraiden

I just don’t understand why some of y’all are acting like he told us and the team to go fuck ourselves lol. Jones wanted to leave a rebuilding team, Bowman convinced him that the Hawks could retool and be fine and gave him a massive contract offer he couldn’t refuse. He’s allowed to be frustrated that he got suckered into signing on for another rebuild in the middle of his prime long term just as much as we’re allowed to be annoyed at the price and term of his contract

  8. Are the CHGO paid for by the hawks all they talk about is Kane never coming back. Jones being a god. And Davidson being a galaxy brain.

  9. dangshnizzle

Lol he signed long term sold on the idea that he’d be competing then whiplash and suddenly he’s at the start of a five year rebuild

  10. drdeadpol

I just want Jones gone. Waive the NTC and let him go to a team that makes the playoffs. Him and Nurse both overpaid and are no longer no.1 d-men. If we don’t get Cellibrini, I hope we draft Levsunov.

Seth is getting paid very well for what he brings to the table. He signed knowing at what state the team was heading yet still signed. So, STFU mentor and do your job.

  12. blazer026

I guess I don’t see what he said that was so bad. Didn’t expect a full rebuild incoming, (don’t think anyone did) and wants to Hawks to be winners

  13. Grrrrrrrt420

I hate seeing Seth go out of his way to not pass to a open bedard and either take a shit shot or make a risky pass to another player who’s covered. U have one fucking job and aren’t even doing it

  14. RyanO2525

To everyone saying he should waive the no trade clause, find a team willing to trade for that caphit. Hawks would have the retain half of it for 6 more years.

  15. I appreciate honesty. The past few seasons have been bad, People want to play for good teams. And even if he wants to waive the NMC, who wants that contract??

  16. sonicsean899

Honestly if we do have a Captain next year, the only guys on this roster I would consider are Bedard and Foligno.

  17. Dpsizzle555

I see nothing wrong what he said.. its the hard truth.

  18. His comments don’t really bother me he’s tired of losing.. I’m just a fan and I’m sick of losing as well but atleast he’s making a shit ton of money hopefully this the last time we finish in the lottery

  19. HeyHo__LetsGo

Everyone can say that they want him to waive his NMC, but to get someone to take his contract you would probably have to sweeten that deal greatly to get someone to take him and I don’t think anyone wants to see the Hawks move high picks and prospects to see him disappear. It’s a shit situation that isn’t going to get any better, so both sides better learn to live with it, sadly.

People here love shitting on the guy, but he was legit our best defenseman this year, especially after Vlasic slowed down the last couple months. Meanwhile, Tyler Johnson had a mediocre year and said much the same, even frankly explicitly saying I’m out of here and not a peep

  21. If he waived his NMC I’d be happy eating half of his contract

  22. StarchyAndDelicious

Lot of people with strong emotions about this who clearly didn’t listen to the full context of this quote in the frame of the entire interview.

    Dude is bought in…

  23. AndyThatSaysNi

How was he not seeing the imminent rebuild on the horizon? We were already limping into expanded playoffs, under heavy cap pressure from our cup veterans who were declining or already gone, and having trouble keeping promising young guys because of it!

Either suck it up and be part of the solution in speeding up the rebuild, or be prepared to waive your NTC to go to a middling bubble team.

  24. shark8084

I can tell half the people making comments just hate the dude and didn’t watch the full interview lol.

  25. BurnsEMup29

Never have I hated a Hawks player as much as I hate Seth Jones. Bud is gliding around playing shit defence for almost $10 million a year for the next 6 years and he’s out here acting like an entitled asshole. Get this clown off my franchise and out of my city.

  26. Hungry_Toe_9555

He’s a decent veteran defenseman but he’s overpaid and probably about league average in performance if he wants out so bad waive your ntc and have the team shop you this summer.

  27. Hungry_Toe_9555

I get where he’s coming from though, no one is expecting the team to be an overnight Stanley Cup contender but even making an effort to be in the conversation for a wild card spot would go a long way. The last two years were basically punted in the name of building a long term foundation we have about 6 promising youngsters, and additional top 5 pick plus 17 draft picks in top three rounds next three years. Spend the money maybe sacrifice a third round pick for veteran help. Start making an effort to at least be competitive. I think most of us would be happy with that kind of progress next season.

  29. He is talking like he is a pending free agent and not somebody with 6 years left on an unmovable contract.

I don’t see what the big deal is with his comments—and I’m a lifelong Hawks fan since the Chelios/Amonte/Daze/Zhamnov/Belfour days.

This is Chicago—it’s residents have grit, attitude and tell it like it is and always speak their mind—why’s the city/fan base in such uproar at him for being..truthful?

  31. Additional_Time_2970

I said the hawks were a better and more cohesive team during his absence due to injury and I still feel that way. Jones can fuck off and go elsewhere. I sincerely hope KD can get a deal done to send him to literally any other team and I couldn’t care less if the hawks ate 70% of his salary. He’s a cancer.

  32. Go to Boston, Seth. Those fans will like you a bit more.

    Take your dumbass brother, too.
