Took 4 seasons for Lafreniere to get 50+ points and it only took 1 and a half for Slafkovsky
Some people just can't get rid of their biases. Slaf was never supposed to be a first overall pick. None of these writers had him as the best player in the draft in their mocks or rankings. Because of that… they'll never admit he is better than first overall picks that they pumped the tires on in their draft years.

The Hishier disrespect is unreal. The guy was a Selke trophy nominee in 22-23. He should be right under Dahlin. I also don't like Celebrini being listed when the kid hasn't even played yet in the NHL.
I would not trade him for Lafreniere or Power right now. Give it time I'm sure He will move up the list.
You can't put Celebrini in this essay… should be 2014 Aaron Ekblad. Also, I don't think Bedard has had a better season than Matthews first.

Lafreniere has been garbage since he started 4 seasons ago and took major pushes from within the league to influence him to improve, unlike Slaf he worked hard on his own and improved his game in just over a season and while Slaf also needed to adjust to the NHL style game from the European style. The Atheletic needs to stop observing players looks like they know nothing.
Hischier is better. You can debate Lafrieniere or Power but we still don’t know their ceilings.

This wont age well. Power as a top 4 40 point dman and hischier as a safe 2way 70 point center who can hit 80+ the odd time will be at the bottom.

Lafreniere is about to make doubters look ridiculous. He was top 10 in high danger passes and passes that lead to scoring chances… accross the ENTIRE league. He just put up 57 points with ONLY 6 ppp!! How many ppp do guys like ziba/panarin on NYRs top pp?? 40? 50?? If he literally bumped a guy like Trochek Laf would have challenged for 100 points this year AND on top of all of that all the scouts and pundits are saying hes vastly improving every season.
Bookmark this- Lafreniere will be Jack Hughes good- different player profile but that type of fantasy asset. Were looking at the french canadian version of Iginla and the way NY handled his development will go down in hiatory for all the wromg reasons….

Lets be frank here: Slaf doesn't have the skills of a first overall pick. He wont dangle around defencemen, he wont do the mind boggling pass, he won't blow past everyone on a breakaway, he won't place it top corner frome anywhere on the ice. It's not his fault, it so happens that in his draft year was bad in terms of talent and he was the one with the highest floor, due to his size. If Slaf was eligible for this years draft he probably would have came out 5 or 6. Again, this isn't his fault, he's just a kid doing his best and circumstances made is so that he was chosen first overall.
NHL fans are spoiled and impatient. The legendary Guy Lafleur took till his 4 season before exploding out and having the career that he did. They cannot understand or can they project players of what they will potentialy be in the future .And how the Montreal Canadiens scouted Slafkovsky has to be one of the best weigh ins and comparisons ever . Having a Beast of a power forward going into battle in the playoffs is insanely inspirational for your team and crew for your quest in hoisting the Stanley cup. Just as long as they don't target 《NHL croonies) onto Slafkovsky like 2014 Carey Price. Or this year's 2024 Thatcher Demko. Anyhow I leave that Gary Bettman Canadian team conspiracy alone for now. But I remember the Price paid in 2014 . And what it meant for Montreal. And it's a shame how the media is shifting the mindset and making Pettersson the scape goat over there . Request a trade Elias to Montreal after this season Montreal will take you .especially with Vancouver retaining 3 mill of that contract per season.th3 we will have tons of stars making no more than the crazy 8 million per season .

Slafkovsky, Suzuki and Caulfeild have formed a really good first line and are still really young.
Not having 12 million dollar players will allow management to spend and balance out the team.

From my point of view, as a fan of the habs, I like Lafreniere. He's a guy from the province of Quebec, I wish him best of luck. I still take Slafkovsky before him… but I would take both if I could.

Honestly habs fans, we shouldnt give a rats booty what people think. He fits our team Perfectly and will make us competitive. Our Organisation, coaching and players are 10 times better than before and we are entering a new era of canadiens. Im more than happy

Im taking Slaf ANYDAY over Laffy Power Hischer. Probably in the future im taking him over Jack Hughes. Basically ppg in the last 30 games at 19-20 years old and is 6'3 235 pounds with good defense. He has potential to be a 100-120 point guy. If that happens. Only one's better to me are Matthews Bedard McDavid.

Why would anyone think some "undeserving eastern-european" would be higher than anyone from Canada on a canadian list? Does not surprise me at all and only makes me smile as similar lists are very very subjective and cannot ever be objective even if Juraj came first. Also, I know I said eastern Europe, but that was just mocking what uneducated people in Canada and US call us, we actually right in the very heart of Europe – therefore we are central Europe. Dont pay attention to similar lists of people just trying to and making money on content, that is not a content really, but just a bunch of very subjective assumptions of what generally target readers in Canada want to read. And if this was done in the US, apologies, but the effect and reasons behind that article and its objectivity are still the same.
Lafreniere gets my vote, easy.
Thought of as the next mega superstar, league game changer. Some had reservations that were rightly so.
Yet enlightened and educated hockey fans thought a guy with high Q stats had a learning curve to achieve directly into the NHL plus NYR history of poor development of their prospects.
Slaf is going to be an absolute beast. Would not shock me to see him considered to be middle of the pack of those listed players in 5 years
Power is so overrated, in my opinion.
