David Pastrnak interference on Antti Raanta: Why I wouldn’t suspend
David Pastrnak bumped into and inured goaltender Antti Raanta. It was called a major and then reduced to a minor after review. I agree with the reduction.
The primary focus of Pastrnak should be to play the puck without body checking the goalie. He sees Raanta all the way and skates into him by turning the wrong way, then he raises his arms to protect himself, and as a result, he inadvertently makes contact with the goalie. Unfortunately the contact is made to the head area. In a situation where a players stick 'accidently' makes contact with a players head, he is still penalized. More so if there is blood. The referees made a call, a major, which enables them to review the play, and bring it down to a minor.
Well that sums it up right there… he turned into the goalie, not away. Should have remained a major. And let me take it further by saying that he clearly wanted to make contact with the goalie. The fact that he wanted to make contact shows he does not care about the outcome of the contact whether or not it does result in an injury. So you are correct, it is based off his actions, and his actions scream HE WAS AIMING AT THE GOALIE. "Just happened to turn his skates to the left." When you blurted out those words you pretty much let everyone know you are blindly trying to stick up for him, ignoring the fact, professional skaters just "don't happen" to do things, they do them intentionally.
Why does he turn towards the goalie instead of away, your skates don't just turn on their own? And why did he reach out just before moving contact? I think he purposely made contact with Raanta but I don't think he did it with the intent to injure

Interference yes, ABSOLUTELY!
Suspension, no.
Would love your thoughts when you look from the behind the net angle where Pastrnak's arm extends toward the head before his feet make contact.

yeah sure, instead of shielding your own face, extend your arms out to make contact with the goalie's head. No intend to injure at all.
It’s no surprise why your channel is unsuccessful. Shit content like this is a prime example. Get educated and do better
He still has to protect the goalie. Definitely a penalty and maybe 2 game suspension

no. he made no effort to avoid contact. period. his state of mind is irrelevant. he even extended an arm and a leg into the goalie

Not a tough call. Just like high sticking, you don't necessarily need to read the guy's mind. He hit and hurt the goalie, and could have avoided it.
Agreed
