On the Ukraine suspension..
I look at it as 3 games suspension plus a fine. If you can't or won't pay the fine you get another ten games off.
If you think $2000 sounds cheap, please consider that the average annual earnings in Ukraine corresponds to about $10000. That is less than a third of the average American.
A 13 game suspension in itself is a joke!!! You need to make an example out of things like this! IIHF need to ban him from international play!
The no Captain thing never works. A team needs a Captain. I also don't like teams making their star player the Captain. Just because you can score goals does not make you a leader.
Gord Miller tweeted out that it's actually an automatic 3 games, plus a max 10 games AND the fine. Now let's see if the IIHF lowers the boom on him.
By how comfortable he was doing the gesture, I don't think this was his first rodeo. He gave a non apology, which Jalen obviously didn't accept. Nothing's changed. I remember Wayne Simmonds had a banana thrown at him during a shootout in an exhibition game in London, Ontario in 2011. Just sad.

Kind of a weird standard. I remember when the NBA forced the sale of the Clippers when the previous owner was called out for being racist. I mean, the guy got p-p-p-paid but I thought it was the right way to handle something like that. Sends a pretty serious message. Not surprised some Micky Mouse league in eastern Europe isn't taking it too seriously. If you follow european football, you realize this problem is not even close to being a hockey problem, unfortunately. Hope the other guy can shake it off and not let it bother him. Great to see JBB get the extension in Tampa! You have to be "on your game" in the salary cap era as a GM and JBB definitely is. The margin for error is narrow. What great ownership (thank you Mr. Vinik!), Stevie Y (thank you for your hard work in Tampa and hiring JBB in 2010), JBB, Murray and the scouting staff, player development, etc. have done in Tampa is incredible. How JBB has not won "GM of the Year" yet or Jon Cooper "Coach of the Year" is beyond me. GO BOLTS!!

Absolutely loving Chinakhov and Sillinger this preseason…seeing what they did in rookie tournament and what they’re doing now?! Would be amazing to see either or both make the Jackets out of camp.
Even if the suspension was 3 games, while that definitely will be opposed by plenty of people saying it should be longer; I still think “buying” a shorter suspension is a worse look for hockey as a whole.

The standard is that most of Eastern Europe doesn't care about racism, since they're typically unwelcoming towards anyone who isn't from there/doesn't look like them.
