[Powers / The Athletic] Hurricanes, Chicago Wolves to reunite in AHL partnership
Not all to familiar with Scott Powers but he covers the Blackhawks/Chicago for The Athletic. Looks like we’ve got our affiliate for the next 3 seasons!
“A year after going their separate ways, the Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Wolves are reuniting. The two teams have agreed to a three-year contract for the Wolves to become the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate again, according to a league source.”

As long as we’ve got an affiliate, it’s a good start. But tbh I want to be free of that organization given how they shafted us the last time around.

Woohoo, stability for our developing prospects.

Chicago decided to fuck around and they found out. I hope they enjoyed the AHL basement by finishing 31 out of 32 with a 23-35-14 record.
And that is why they came crawling back to us

Could be very wrong but didn’t we have a multi year agreement before and the Wolves close to end things early?
This time around I hope there’s something in the contract that really screws them if they try to walk back on their deal early so we’re not left on this predicament again.

Damn I was sure they had a buyout option. 3 seasons more with Chicago sucks. Hopefully the Canes got some assurances that they can develop their guys the way they want.
The only upside is that Chicago is an enjoyable town for prospects to live in and the travel is cheap.

Better than nothing I guess, but I dislike the very idea of an independent AHL franchise. I just don’t think it works on today’s NHL/AHL arrangement

Getting full control over hockey ops there is a massive W

As a Chicago Caniac, this pleases me

really have distaste for this past year and what CHI did. But I think they rightfully ate shit and their on ice product suffered for it. I hate what it did for our prospects, lots of guys could’ve used thsi season in the AHL to develop.
Hope we still have control over things like coaching/etc. There’s a lot of great prospects who will be fun to watch and also hopefully impactful. Would rather not have to do business with CHI, but it’s better than nothing.
