Dougie Hamilton’s 2023-24 season was cut short due to injury. People seem to have mixed emotions about his time so far with the New Jersey Devils. While I understand that he isn’t perfect, his impact was dearly missed on the Devils’ blueline. Once he went down, the offensive (particularly on the power play) and defensive execution seemed to get worse.

Dougie is an important piece in the puzzle
I think Luke was not really capable of filling in on the power play just yet. He felt so unconfident and shaky. I think even Nemec wouldve been a better fill in.
The “let the young guys figure it out” of the past few seasons really shouldnt fly anymore. Fitz should’ve used the LTIR money to bring in some veteran defenseman. And yeah, probably a goalie.
I think Dougie and Siegs have good chemistry and that was also really challenging for the team.

Its crazy ive seen people say he needs to get traded cuz we have luke. Right now dougie is stronger, doesnt make as many mistakes as luke and has the best shot from the point. At sone point luke will be better but thats not right now
There is no doubt that Hamilton is one of the better offensive D in the NHL. However when you are paying a Dman 9m, it is expected that they can do it all. Hamilton hasn't proven to be a legit "anchor", such as Makar, Josi, Hedman, or McAvoy are.

If Vegas gets away with what they are, NJ should have done the same thing with Hamilton and Hughes (Allstar game injury ) tried to land a goalie immediately after putting him on LTIR. Or other big names, every team needs to take advantage of LTIR while the league still allows the loop hole.
