Sara Orlesky goes one-on-one with Rick Bowness following his announcement today.
Bones led the Jets to a 98-57-9 record during his two seasons as the head coach en route to a pair of Stanley Cup Playoffs appearances.
Bowness served as a coach for eight different franchises and was behind the bench for 17 playoff appearances, including trips to the finals as an associate coach with the Vancouver Canucks in 2011, as an assistant with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2015, and as Dallas Stars head coach in 2020. He is one of only three head coaches (along with Scotty Bowman and Pat Quinn) to serve behind the bench in five different decades. His 2,726 games as an NHL coach are the most by anyone in league history.

Congrats on retirement bones, this city will miss you greatly ❤
The one coach I always had respect for was Rick Bowness. He’s such a nice guy and you simply can’t say anything bad about him.
Who do you guys think will be the next coach 🤔
Thank you for being such a fine member of the Winnipeg Jets 1.0 and 2.0. Enjoy your retirement.
Love ya Ricky. 👍🏻✈️
Thanks Rick for a very first class job as a player and head coach
Thank you Rick.
happy trails

A great coach and even better person. So many stories of what an outstanding individual he is. He will be missed. A class act!
For whatever reason I was initially skeptical about Rick become the head coach. However, his genuine concern for his players and professionalism both on and off the ice reflects his exceptional character. Wishing him all the best👍
An absolute total class act..one fantastic human being…enjoy retirement coach.
Bye bones I’ll never forget that photo with me in Ottawa that’s was on of my favourite games against the glass ot win and also the cans game and Blackhawks game in Winnipeg rcaf
I'm feeling old now. I can remember getting his hockey card in a pack, still have it.
I can remember him coaching the Sherbrooke Jets.
I can still see him standing next to coach Barry Long behind the bench in the 84-85 season.
I remember he took a swing at Tim Hunter as a coach in a brawl 😂
I missed his first head coaching win by one game, saw his second win on Feb 19th 1989 on Bobby Hull night at the old barn. Still have the paper from that game.
You had a hell of a career, enjoy the time.
As a side note, Rick has to be one of the last people in the NHL that was connected to the the Atlanta Flames.
Ty bones all the best to you and your family
Thank you for coming back. I remember you in 1981 in a Jets Jersey, I remember you as an assistant, and I remember you as a young coach. Enjoy a well-deserved retirement.
Good for Rick 👍😎 deserve a long holiday Rick …don't come to British Columbia …overfull with folks …to expensive too 😅
Thank you for making Winnipeg relevant and thank you for instilling class, dedication and passion for this team, city and organization
I don’t blame him for retiring because the organization was going to use him as a scapegoat… Teams fall apart and choke in the playoffs and what do they do they blame the coach… You’re organization did the same thing with Paul Maurice! Last time I checked, he’s been doing damn good in Florida… Maybe your players need to start looking at themselves in the mirror and quit blaming the coach for their inability to get the job done in the playoffs !
Winnipeg Jets moving to Charleston SC
