Three outstanding Canadian French goaltenders

Nowadays we have a Russian big three in the league in Vasilevsky, Sorokin and Shesterkin. Can you come up with more of those?

    We Canadian fans will miss when we had an abundance of elite goalies. It’s a tossup who will be in net for Canada in best-on-best tourneys in the next few years and no one knows who the options are.

    Anaheim has to bring those uniforms back as their mains.

    Prime Brodeur would be a Vezina winner today

  4. arashinoko

    * Georges Vézina
    * Gump Worsley
    * Jacques Plante
    * Marc-André Fleury
    * Roberto Luongo

    As a Devils fan, that picture of JSG makes me reminisce about an amazing cup run.

    As a hockey fan, the pain in that man’s eyes as he has to pose with a trophy that’s not the Stanley Cup after losing game 7 of a brutal finals is hard to look at.

  6. juan-de-fuca

    John Vanbiesbrouck, Jonathan Quick, John Gibson (long serving American goaltenders named “John/Jon”)

  7. “Québécois”.

    Jonathan Toews or Claude Giroux would be French Canadian.

    8x All Star, Hart Trophy, 6x Stanley Cups, 7x Vezinas, Hockey Hall of Fame.

    Joseph Jacques Omer Plante

  9. I’m reading every comment wit a French Canadien accent.

  10. It’s a shame there was never really a consistent third to go with Ryan Miller and Jonathan Quick as American tendies.

    As long as we get a couple Olympic cycles through without any more fuckery from the involved parties l think a decade from now we could be talking about Demko, Oettinger and Swayman (unless Swayman leaves Boston and turns into a tire fire).

    Leaving the gloves on to receive the Conn Smythe is straight out of EA Sports. Looks so odd.

    A radio station once had a call in contest where they wanted you tell them what team Patrick Roy retired playing for. I called in to tell them it’s pronounced “Wah” not “Roy” and won. Never went to pick up my hot dog voucher (that was seriously the prize).

    There is Brodeur, and then there is everyone else.

    I wouldn’t put Giguere on the same page as the other two, overall, but what that man did in 2003 was just surreal. Anaheim had no business being anywhere but him standing on his head has to be the most clinical examples of goalies standing on their heads game in game out. Insane stuff.

  15. Quebecois goalies had quite a run for a good while.

  16. CallMeTeff

    Well, Fleury and Luongo would like to have a word

    List of standout Québécois goalies:

    * Georges Vézina
    * Gump Worsley
    * Jacques Plante
    * Patrick Roy*
    * Martin Brodeur*
    * Jean-Sebastien Giguère
    * Félix Potvin
    * Roberto Luongo*
    * Marc-André Fleury*
    * Corey Crawford
    * José Théodore
    * Jonathan Bernier
    * Martin Biron

    These 4 * played more than 1000 NHL games.

    I left a few out like Garon, Denis, Montembault, and etc.

    Giguere in the ’03 playoffs played the greatest stretch of hockey
