Kucherov led the NHL in points (144), points per game (1.78), power-play points (53), road points (75), assists (100, tied) and primary assists (62, tied) while ranking second in even-strength points (91) and becoming just the fifth skater and first winger in NHL history to log 100 assists in a single season. The All-Star forward set #Bolts franchise records in assists, points, even-strength points, power-play points, multi-assist games (26), three-assist games (11, tied), four-assist games (4), multi-point games (41), three-point games (23), four-point games (8, tied) and five-point games (3). His 23 three-point games led the NHL while the only skaters with more in a single season in NHL history are Gretzky, Lemieux, Esposito, Yzerman, Jagr and Nicholls. Kucherov became the third player in NHL history to score 40 goals and add 100 assists in a single season as he led the NHL in scoring for 129 days, 97 more than any other skater. He’s looking to become the 20th skater in NHL history to win the Hart Trophy multiple times.
But sure, he only played 81 games while MacKinnon played 82.

The fifth person to record 100+ assists in a season? I say absolutely.

More ice time and games played is not an argument in MacKinnon’s favor considering Kuch scored more than him lol
Edit: and all the goal and shot stats prove is that he was the better goal scorer this year which nobody is arguing. Problem is there was a much better goal scorer than him in the league this year so he doesn’t set himself apart there.
Famous_Sign_4173
Kuch had a point in 50.4% of the Bolts total goals and had 54 more points than the next closest teammate (Point, who had 90).

This is a fair argument for Mac but I still think it’s Kucherov
Account0077
He was the most valuable to his team who took a quick play off off exit…

# 1 bullshit if he don’t get it.
junkrgNew
Before the playoffs began, I was absolutely on Kuch’s side. Right now ??? I would be embarrassed for him if he were to get it. I know it’s a regular season award but the others didn’t suck as much as Kuch did for the 5 games where it mattered most.
StarvingCommunist
Yes Mack had like maybe a top 30 center season ever while kucherov had a top 3, if not the best winger season ever. Hmmmmm
One-Adhesiveness-416
The Aves are still a playoff team without Mack Tampa is on Celebrini watch this season without Kuch. The choice is actually pretty clear who is more valuable to the TEAM
nickkkk777
Kuch for sure, as a winger he carried the lightning kicking and screaming to the playoffs. I may be looking at it from a reductive angle but sue me. Mack has the greatest defenseman of the last 20 years, and a top 15 player on his wing. Would be a snub for kuch to not win it.

Literally every argument for MacK based on offensive numbers is bullshit, cause there’s absolutely no way someone with functioning brain cells will make that argument after seeing how Kuch compares to MacK in terms of scoring against top-5, top-10, top-16 teams in the league.
What makes the Hart race between MacK and Kuch very close for me is that there’s also no denying that MacK is way better defensively, compared to Kuch he’s literally Bergeron. McD somehow was even better defensively after Knoblauch took over, so honestly I’m absolutely OK with any of them winning it.
What I’m not OK with is that we already know there’re gonna be voters who left Kuch out of their top-4 based on his performance at the ASG or based on their own stupidity, and honestly I don’t even know which is worse
cursedfan
The stats in the pic are solid but also somewhat cherry picked. Most games played? Think kuch was 81. Most game winning goals and most ot goals are highly overlapping stats, as are even strength goals and points.
I’ll leave it to others to show the kuch stats but for me it’s the gap between kuch and everyone else on the team.

I’m getting tired of this. People are just gonna pick based on who they like more.
Of course I want Kuch to win bc he had an insane record setting season. Will he win? Prob not bc the hockey writers think MacK deserves a Hart.
Kuch won the Art Ross and that’s all I cared about for the regular season. That plus him hitting 100 apples.
Immediate_Type9114
And yet, after MacKinnon led in all those, Kuch still beat him out in points, had a point in over half his teams goals, was the only consistent guy on a Bolts team in shamble for half the year, Vasy had surgery, sergachev broke his leg, and the defense was ass until the final 2 months. MacKinnon had a way easier path to get to where they are at the end of the year.
Oh yeah, Take away Kucherovs and MacKinnons empty net points. MacKinnon has 132, Kuch 130. Kuch would consistently get 2-4 points, and MacKinnon also has a game in hand on Kuch BTW.
So MacKinnon leads in all the stats you say, then we take away all the empty net points and they are still pretty even in points? Yeah thanks for accidentally praising Kuch and showing he’s better still.
Now get the fuck out of this sub
EDIT: for all the stupid people in Colorado, Kuch had one of the top 3 seasons ever as a Winger in history. MacKinnon? Maybe barely top 30 as a Centre.

I absolutely hate how many people keep saying “You can’t even make an argument for anyone else”
BITCH YES YOU CAN!!
I could make an argument for Kucherov, Mac, McDavid, Matthews, Panarin, Pastrnak, Josi or Hellebyuck if I wanted. So many people are between Kuch and Mac that anyone who says it’s clearly one or the other is obviously biased. Personally, I think Kucherov helped the Lightning for than anyone else in the league, but it’s not by a country mile.

Great points. Can’t wait to hear all this repeated for years to come after Mack takes the Hart!
