  1. Honestly back in January I was all on the Yakumchuk train. Dude plays very similar to phaneuf. I would have no issues if we picked him

    Ran into Brent this morning, it never worked out at that level but he’s one of nicest guys you’ll ever meet.

    I meant to put text on this post but for some reason it did not show up.

    Brent Krahn (an unfortunate goalie bust) was picked 9th in the 2000 draft;
    Dion Phaneuf (nostalgia big hitting defenceman) picked 9th in 2003 draft.

    Essentially I’m hoping whoever Calgary picks at 9th this year will be as great as (or even better than) Dion Phaneuf and not a bust like Krahn.
    Unless Calgary somehow pulls off crazy trades to move up in the draft…

    Krahn is a good example of why drafting a goalie in the first 2 rounds is a bad idea unless you’re drafting an extremely rare talent. In most cases you’re probably better off drafting a goalie in a middle round every season or two than using a first round pick on a goalie.

    Still can’t believe we got rid of Phaneuf for spare parts.
