  1. Pathetic effort by the Rangers. I put more effort into dropping a deuce at work than they put into this game. And I got paid infinitely less.

  2. I lasted the first two periods. My feed crashed. I said why can't the bleeping Canes score a goal. Didn't refresh and went to do something else. Carolina scores 4 goals. So I guess the reason they couldn't score was because I was watching the game. Looking forward to a game 7. Keep wearing each other out for the next round.

  3. Rags looked tired in this game ngl. If it weren't for Shesty doing Shesty things, this was easily a blowout win to the tune of 7+ goals. Hoping the momentum continues for my Canes. This game was our Senzu bean and next game we can't let up. Win in dominant fashion and break the Rags like we did the Debs last year.

  4. Canes proving everyone wrong.
Not physical, well it’s tied on hits this series
    They just fold
2 wins with their back against the wall
They can’t beat a hot goalie, score 4 in back to back games.
    These boys do not quit

  5. I’m not disappointed by the result. I’m disappointed because I thought the rangers would play with urgency and determination to close out the series. Instead, that was a nearly identical performance to when they got eliminated last postseason. The rangers’ defensive structure vanished entirely. Every Carolina goal was scored when multiple players were flatfooted and/or out of position. That was complete and utter choking if I have ever seen it. I could live with a 4-1 loss at home vs Carolina, had only the rangers even tried to make it look like they cared at all.

  6. I'm conflicted. I had Carolina winning in my brackets, so I want to win, but then I want the Rangers to win quickly so they can be rested for the Conference finals with Florida. If this ends up a 7 game series and the rangers win, I don't get my way at all. Idk. I guess it would be cool if the Canes reverse-swept. It would be interesting.

  7. It says a lot about how well Shesterkin is playing AND how well the Hurricanes have been playing that everyone universally understands that, despite giving up 3, 3, 2, 4 and 3 goals in this series, Igor has been standing on his head.
Big stat for the Canes tonight: 4 goals despite their top 4 forwards of the playoffs so far(Aho, Guentzel, Svechnikov and Jarvis) being held off the scoresheet completely. Their depth has finally woken up these past two games.

  8. The Hurricanes could have definitely put this series away within 5. That being said, all the pressure is now on the Rangers to go down to Carolina and win Game 6 on the road.

  9. Forgive me fellow Caniacs for my dispassionate outlook, but here it comes. Yes, the Canes have come two-thirds of the way back, and major props to them for it. But this series ends in Raleigh, Game 6…It's not about a lack of effort. There's plenty of that. It's not about a lack of skill. The Canes are one of the most prolific offenses in the league. (It doesn't show so much here, because the Rangers are a great team.) But frankly I am shocked that they didn't get swept, and still think that by rights they should have been, and there is one absolutely horrifying statistic (or group of them) that I will point to in order to make my point…New York is 4 for 17 on their power plays. Carolina is 1 for 20 on theirs. As if that weren't bad enough, New York is 4 for 20 on CAROLINA power plays. (And I've always thought that giving up just one shortie in the playoffs was the kiss of death.)…This all indicates two fatal flaws that have been miraculously overcome, staving off elimination so far. First, a structural breakdown somewhere on the back line. Who, and where are the defensemen when Trouba picks Aho? And two, a desire for the team to stick with a goalie that doesn't handle rushes all that well. To his credit Andersen has been fine in regular play. A .902 SV% isn't world beater, but it's not Erik Ersberg numbers either. And considering he's playing NYR, it's not bad. It's too late to rectify these problems with personnel changes, so the discipline is going to have to tighten up in order to fix this…This comeback is certainly a feel good story, and saves face for their season somewhat, but games where they overpower the Rangers with shots on goal are the exception, not the rule…I'm clapping for the effort, but not all that hopeful…

  10. This was the first game in this series to not be decided by one goal. Also, the first I would almost consider a "blowout".
Wow. What a 3rd period…Checking the app and seeing the Rangers up 1-0 going into the 3rd I thought; alright, well I guess this series ain't going to 6. Tuning in, I thought the Canes just looked done and was sure it'd end that way.
And then old man Staal decides to just light the fire all by himself and score one of the nicest goals I've seen in a while. And just like that, suddenly Carolina came to life. 1-1 became 2-1 and then 3-1. Suddenly the Rangers' net was empty on a faceoff, something I didn't realize as I complained "Don't ice the damned puck again!" only to see it hit the empty cage for 4-1.
Four unanswered goals in one period is almost an absurdity in a series that has been so close up until this. I'd say it's a statement, but who knows if this still just ends in Raleigh.
I think, if you're New York, you MUST end this in Raleigh. Because I think if you let this go to 7, Carolina is winning it.
