Watching him play I don’t buy that “bad edge” excuse. I think how he performed at the CHL top prospect on-ice testing is reflective of his skating ability:

    >He’d finished 16th among the 35 skaters tested — a group of the top prospects eligible for the draft — and top 10 in three of the 10 tests (third in transition agility, sixth in weave agility with a puck, and ninth in transition agility with a puck) but he called his results “not great.”

As he looks like a good skater, but really lacking in power even compared to his peers. And not exactly the frame of someone that looks like they could add a lot more muscle. Very weird selling point for him in my opinion.

I love that the article mentions Benson’s play as a rookie being a help for Catton’s draft stock… Sure. Just like DeBrincat’s helped Caufield, or Caufield’s helped Benson. Most teams will always draft size and hope for development rather than drafting skill and hoping for growth. I’m almost certain Catton will be there at #11 at this point.

  3. My personal opinion, we have lots of sub 6′ skill in the system, let’s take a big nasty defenseman with a heavy shot and can play defense
