The Oilers NHL regular season schedule was really easy. Too easy. They had too much time off between games, easy road trips and long home stands and now they are paying the price. The look really tired now.
Certain Oiler players are getting very predictable when they have the puck.
Hyman – always circles the offensive zone and takes too long to pass the puck. Never just throws it in front quickly just to create chaos.
RMH – never makes quick decisions, never one-times his shots, misses the net more often than he hits it. Biggest duster of the puck on the entire team.
Draisaitl – slows the play down when he gets the puck. Misses the net more often than he hits it. Gets himself corralled a lot.
McDavid – passes up almost every good shooting opportunity that he gets. Always looking for the pretty play instead of getting a greasy goal. Defensively he is negligent at staying close to his check (but nowhere near as bad as Johnny Hockey).
Bouchard – rides others coattails. Easily dis-possessed when pressured. Overrated.
Common denominator amongst these guys is the need to play with much greater urgency.
We are a slow hockey team that struggles to pass the puck, and shoot the puck when the play calls for it…….we got the skating around part down, now we need the rest of the game.
