THIS IS GETTING REALLY CONCERNING FOR THE CANUCKS… ELIAS PETTERSSON STRUGGLES + JONATHAN LEKKERIMAKI

[Music] what was it that Uncle Ben said again oh yeah right fill your cup of rice with 3/4 water and then put in the microwave no not that with great power comes great responsibility that is what Uncle Ben said right but when it comes to the Vancouver connect I think it’s finally time to go out there and talk about the guy who has arguably been failing the most in that respect he has a lot of power he has a lot of responsibility but he has not really been fulfilling it much let’s talk about Alias peton because earlier this morning we had ourselves the what do they call this an off-day press conference where Alias Pon spoke to the media Following last night’s game against the Oilers and this is a bizarre video like actually no it wasn’t from this morning it was from an hour ago I’ll leave a link in the description if you want to go ahead and listen to it it’s 6 minutes long and it’s just questions and answers with Alias Pon and the weird thing about this was that you know people like to talk about body language right like oh JT Miller has body language oh he doesn’t look like he wants to answer questions or on the ice he’s demotivated he’s slamming the back of the net he’s like yelling at his guys like people talk about body language all the the time but Alias Pon and his body language I feel like it’s going under the radar a little bit because even before this video this press conference of him that came out and we’ll talk about that a little bit later but even before that there were the moments in the games where Alias Pon would go to his knees after missing a shot or he just kind of gets into the battle he gets shoved around a little bit he falls down and he takes a little bit of time to get up he looks skywards way too many times because he’s not hitting the net and all that it’s body language body language body language and in this interview the guy’s body language like I think somebody said it in the subreddit the guy like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh guy looks sad guy looks completely out of it and like he says the right things I don’t want to discredit py for stepping up to the media whether it’s him or the team or Rick tet that puts themselves in a spot where it’s like yeah pet you want to go up and he’s like yes I need to do this I need to be the guy to address the media on a day off or not a day off I mean no days off in the playoffs right but in an off day where you’re not playing a hockey game it’s got to be py and for some reason you know the guy’s body language has me completely concerned he drags on some of the words I mean he says he’s a little bit nasy still because of some sort of I don’t know they didn’t say it was like he’s sick but but it’s kind of like there’s a thing going around you know even I still got it a bit but just the way he’s answering these questions too the guy sounds really sad and some of these answers he does take a lot of accountability but he doesn’t really dive too deep into what things he can change in order to fix whatever is going on with him in his game there’s a lot of I want to be a Difference Maker maybe it’s the players that I’m playing with but at the end of the day like I’m in control of what I have and it was hard getting to sleep last night and with all of this you know you can tell that it’s weighing a lot on Alias Pon his inefficiency in the postseason so far but also it’s like what do the Canucks have to do to get this guy going Rick toet said in the press conference yesterday yeah pey’s got to get going I don’t know what else there is to say but Pet’s got to get going and then we had like Bruce Buro talking about this on TV saying that the guy has completely lost his confidence Pon that is not talk it and then it was John Garrett on Donnie and Dolly yesterday Pon is not confident like this guy is just a completely different player than what we saw at the beginning of the year when he was one of the best players in the league in scoring and in January where he brought himself back up to that status there were two really amazing stins where he was producing points and points and goals like crazy and he was moving his feet and he was getting involved and he was scoring a lot it was those two the beginning of the season in January but ever since February Pon has kind of slowed down and it’s gotten even worse when the games matter the most and I have no doubt that Alias pson the player will finish the $1 million contract that he is on till the beginning of the 2030s and we’re going to look at him as one of the legends of this team like he’ll be fine I give it 8 years yeah he’ll probably figure it out in 8 years and he’s a good enough player to justify that $1 million price tag over that time span but right now in 2024 at the beginning of that the contract hasn’t even kicked in yet like he’s still making just seven but this is the guy that has all the expectations on him he’s supposed to be the best player on the team and he’s been like what 10th best you could say who’s been better than pets in this playoff Run Okay thra Demco cases Smith arter seov the three goalies I’d say have been more impactful and better than Pon so yeah Demco even only played one game so that’s kind of damning but those three will add on Brock besser We’ll add on JT we’ll add on Quinn We’ll add on Dakota Joshua Conor Garland Elias lindome for sure and Nita zorov that’s 10 guys that’s not even talking about the defensive shutdown qualities of guys like Tyler Meers and Carson Susi the team has had some passengers the past little while and you know the question has come out as to whether or not Rick toet playing Pon with guys like laery and mckv is part of the problem like it’s been long enough that everybody’s saying oh should you play Pon with Joshua and Garland should you play Pon with Miller and besser full-time try to get him going again but that’s kind of the thing peton is the caliber a player where he should be able to be going no matter who it is he plays with I mean Sydney Crosby made Chris kunet an Olympian Henrik and Daniel sadine made Alex Burrows a 30 goal score good players elevate those around them and under most circumstances they still look like good players Pon has been as much of a passenger as Elia mck and lafy have been and now conversations have Arisen as to whether or not the conu should even start a guy like janathan laraki in the lineup put him in he’s already with the team he’s with the abbottsford Canucks and he got brought up I mean him Alias pedon the other one bunch of other dudes are with the team right now here’s a fall chology went out there and tweeted earlier this afternoon asked about the possibility of playing someone like laraki who has never played an NHL game in the lineup in game five taket says I’m swinging the bat I’m not scared he didn’t commit to playing laraki but it sounds like a real consideration he says he wants to get all the Intel first and think about that would that not be like the craziest thing laraki I’ve seen a lot of people like my buddy sap talks about this a lot how laraki is not an option because he’s fresh out of Sweden he just finished up the season over there he doesn’t have any NHL experience but the point is he’s good like he’s good at scoring he’s got offensive instincts he’s got probably the best shot on the team already like aside from Brock besser in his prime and Pon in his prime like laraki is nobody’s match when it comes to Raw shooting ability so would it not be interesting to think about okay put Pon on the fourth line playing with laraki give them extremely sheltered minutes your only task is to go out there and score peton get it to the kamaki if this guy can get the puck on edit in that’s the task is that not an idea that you at least think about not because it’s a no-brainer but because it’s thinking outside of the box and if the kaks need goals like yesterday they could have used some more goals they didn’t do anything for the first 40 minutes of the game no goals no nothing until Connor Garland and Dakota Joshua ended up getting goals in the third but it was too little too late as Evan Bard was able to come back and win the game at the end but for laraki is this an option he is already one of the most offensively potent guys in the lineup but do you use him he’s extraordinarily raw I wouldn’t be surprised if taket just said no sorry like you are too inexperienced to play nah we’ll just put PDG when he comes back in that’s it but if they try this if they try to get PD going by playing him with laraki hey guess what laraki couldn’t be any worse than Elia mck and Neil hoglander right I don’t know man we’ll see but let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about Alias Pon what the hell’s going on with him and whether or not laraki could actually be the guy to step in and maybe fix this who really knows thoughts in the comment section I’ll leave a link in the description to the Alias Pon press conference because it’s a very interesting video too I hope you enjoyed this vsh as99 and bye [Music] [Music]

  1. Guys like Skinny Pete, Huges and Marner are not built for the playoffs in body or mind. When the physical play goes up to the next level in the playoffs, those guys are visibly playing scared, they don't like to give or take a hit.

  2. Scratch Mikheyev, his last goal was 60+ games ago. For 10 playoff games plus end of regular season, he cannot help Petterson to score and vice versa. This could make Pettterson more depressed and even sink his confidence level faster. No harm to put Lekkerimarki to ignite some sparks with two swedes together or even put back Hoglander to create a full swedish line.

  3. I know more is expected from Petey but I’m super disappointed in Hoglander. He just seemed like the perfect playoff guy. He has been completely invisible.

  4. I bet if you think back long and hard you will come up with a couple scenarios in the last couple months where his noggin might have gotten rattled pretty bad.

  5. Mikheyev has been a boat anchor all season and he seems to be bringing Petey down. I'd say throw Lekkerimaki on RW and maybe a fireplug like Podkolzin on the LW and see if that wakes him up. He's not showing the way he was in the bubble against Vegas.

  6. he's sad cuz he wishes the season would end already so he can go back to Sweden and park himself in front of a screen where theres no pressure to play up to his contract. Man if this keeps up for a couple seasons, he is really going to hate life in Vancouver. It's all fun and games signing a big fat contract, but when the ink dries, the reality of playing up to that in a crazy hockey market becomes all to real.Specially when it handcuffs the team from being able to add necessary pieces to be able to compete due to lack of salary cap

  7. I know Crosby and the Sedins made the players near them better.
Just remember: Crosby is a top 10 player, ALL TIME. The Sedins not only had each other, but they also didn’t do this till they were almost 30.

  8. The paycheck of 200k a week should be enough to save his fee fees…..like the Sedins ….. gone for the playoffs…. Maybe he should trade pay for the rest of the year with Garland….yeah 52 weeks at roughly 200k a week

  9. Have we considered that maybe he’s going through a heartbreak like relationship wise.. or maybe someone close to him isn’t doing well.. 🤔

  10. Get Pettersson some cold meds! Dude sounds aweful. can hear it in his voice. He is sick. Hopefully he gets better soon.

  11. Let’s go Petey let’s go
    Let’s go Petey let’s go
    Let’s go Petey let’s go
    Let’s go Petey let’s go
    Let’s go Petey let’s go
    Let’s go Petey let’s go

  12. So from Feb to now, Pettersson was and is playing poorly. Regular season is bearable, but now it's the playoffs. It shouldn't matter who he plays with, he's suppose to drive the play and be the difference maker, not his line mates. Also he did play with JT and Brock, and still looked invisible and lost. Maybe the coach should bench a guy who isn't scoring and not really helping the team. We don't need him to be good defensively, we need him to score and get points.

  13. EP40 looked anemic to me in his availability to media after game 4
Have doctors done blood work to check iron levels and hemoglobin in his blood , if he's got low iron or low hemoglobin it won't matter how hard he tries , he will just be late and seem out of gas , he has a cold , cough allergies , he looked in pain just answering questions .Ever since he went to the All Star Game , he has not been the same player .I think he's got something wrong with him , The Oilers. are sticking him, punching him , slew footing him . A normal EP40 would go around Corey Perry and feast on the matchups Oilers are showing him and score 2 or 3 goals a game .There is physically something wrong Elias Peterson !!!

  14. I thought pety would be playing his butt off when the Canucks acquired his countryman E. Lindholm. I thought they'd be great together. Now i know the Canucks need to trade him in the off season.

  15. Elias Peterson we missed out on Jake Guentzel for your playoff line mate
Instead we are giving you two wingers who haven't scored in six months , we want you to make them look better ( two fire hydrants , suggest you fire pucks off them into the net ) they are not forechecking any more so you will have to get the puck from a defence man or get it yourself .Suggest don't pass to line mates as you won't see the puck again as it will be crest centre oilers goalie or turned over to Edmonton defence

  16. It's his first real playoffs. It was the same with Matthews, Nylander, Zibanejad, Bäckström and a lot of guys before they figured it out. Also the contract extension was forced by the Canucks management

  17. Farhan Lahlgi said EP40 is downtown riding around on a scooter enjoying the sun , this is after his press availability I guess . I don’t know about that what if he falls and hurts himself , try skateboarding , bungy jumping why not .Sidney Crosby before this years All Star game went to Utah or somewhere on an outdoor rink all to himself , just skated and visualized why and what he would do when he got to Toronto to the All Star game . Rick Tochett coached Sidney Crosby , played along side Mario Lemieux , Yager their current defence coach . Maybe skate with Demko before or after ice sessions , visualize , get back to being great again , Crosby is 36 now , Peety is failing himself if he gives up at 25 , what else can Tochett do . Hoglander EP40 , Lekarmaki all Sweden line EP 40 will get him the puck and he will score and win game 5 and EP40 will be great again and Canucks will live to fight again !!!

  18. I couldn't agree more. I couldn't even finish the interview. It was so dull. He looked so depressed and unconvincing. He's our assistant captain? It's like, come on, this is playoff hockey. This was like 2021 with him. I hope he snaps out of it. Go canucks!

  19. It’s so simple from a kings fans perspective, the oilers where the hungriest team in game . The positive Canucks fans can take from game 4 is they almost won without giving as much as the oilers . The negative is , the hungrier team always wins , that’s the better team , the team who’s attacking non stop not worried about mistakes or defense, just going going going . I personally hope the Canucks want it as bad and show it !

  20. Brock Boeser mentioned before that he had someone to help him with the mental side of the game. Presumably, he had a sports psychologist or counsellor to work with, and Boeser this year now seems to have a new perspective on life and on hockey, and he is able to play like the way we have witnessed now. I am no psychologist, but I think Pettersson needs someone like that to get his head into the right place. This may be something that is bigger than confidence and bigger than hockey – I am actually starting to worry about him.

  21. Canucks should have waited till the end of the year to sign him like he requested. He is a thin frame player and going to have tough times in the playoffs.

  22. That spin-o-rama after skating full tilt into the middle of the ice, only to get leveled from a check to the back… that was like a Mitch Marner warmup pirouette…
