I always wondered this, if the trust factor was there it’s quite a beneficial thing. I feel like we used to see it sometimes in the pre salary cap era. A trade for a pending UFA that brings assets to the team and the player comes back the next year.
Obviously when it’s not a sign and trade the return isn’t that high though.

Maybe re-sign him in 5+ years once he’s gone to other teams to see what it’s like and grow up a bit. Dude needs a fresh start with less pressure and a dope sports psychologist.
