Frankie Corrado is an underrated analyst. His words especially make sense after reading and listening to many of the other hockey pundits who deal primarily in pipe dreams. An assessment period is exactly what Craig Berube needs.
With decisions over qualifying offers for 4 RFAs and who among the UFAs to re-sign, there's lots to do immediately.
The obvious needs of a starting goalie and blueline help should take some careful planning with no good reason to rush into a deal. The deadline for putting a squad together in Berube's vision is opening night, not tomorrow and that is a soft deadline at that.
In 3 years time, a new coach will be hired. It does not appear that Shanahan wants to actually move away from the core.
I can’t wait for Berube to get into the face of both Nylander and Matthews for their lack of effort.
I'm surprised to see the Leafs are only 7th in payroll for 023/024. However, the Rangers are 11, the Panthers 14, the Oilers 15, and the Stars 20 (Source: BETMGM) . There's obviously a lot to be said about getting bang for your buck in the NHL. The Leafs are not getting their return on investment.
A new Leafs coach has brought more life to the sports broadcasting staff, than to the team.
The philosophy will be you either give 100% on the ice or you will be picking out splinters from your butt on the bench, before watching the next game from upstairs.

Even if they get prospects/futures for Marner or a Saros+Kemell+pick.
It still allows them go after Tanev,Brossoit,Laughton,Stephenson,Dillon or re sign Domi,Bertuzzi.
