For as much I wanna believe the hype, we’ve “won the offseason” before only to trip over ourselves in often horrific fashion

TLDR:
* Four year contract * **”we’re pretty confident about your Stanley Cup chances now”** – most NHL head coaches win the Stanley Cup with their second team * Interesting to see who Keefe will bring over to be on his assistant coach team * In Keefe’s three most recent seasons, fifth most points in the standings, sixth most wins in the NHL, third most wins in the division. Lots of very good stats in terms of what the numbers looked like for the Leafs in the regular season under Keefe * Third in the league with power play percentage over the last three seasons under Keefe (though Dangle clarifies that the PP may not be strictly under Keefe’s purview) * “masterful match for the New Jersey Devils” – inheriting a team that his eerily similar to the team he inherited when he joined the Leafs * Devils lack toughness and snarl in their line up, specifically looking at the playoffs right now * Keefe has struggled mightily to win rounds in the ‘yoffs, but won a championship with the Calder Cup and the Marlies * The Marlies was the best D core Keefe got to coach and he coaches them to a win. Leafs D Core doesn’t stack up well against other D Cores in the NHL * Goaltending is a bit of a question mark for the Devils, but a lot/some of the reason why the Devils struggled to keep the puck out of their own net * **Dangle then waxes poetic about our D Core: Dougie Hamilton will be the best RHD Keefe has ever coached. Keefe is going to love Jonas Siegenthaler. This D Core has the potential to be the best D Core after Keefe is done with them** * This team is going to score a “bajillion” goals under Keefe: Bratt, Jack, Nico, and Timo * **”I think Sheldon Keefe is going to immediately fall in love with Nico Hischier and use him in all situations”** * “And another guy I’m sure Sheldon Keefe cannot wait to coach…Ondrej Palat” * It was time to move on from the Leafs, his time was up * “this is going to be such a good fit” * Keefe didnt have a training camp when he joined the Leafs and he got guys out of slumps. With a full training camp with this team, and assuming everyone stays healthy, “**Keefe and the New Jersey Devils will be a match made in heaven”**

Don’t mean to be the dark cloud in the room. But I was really hoping for Berube. He seems like more the type of coach our team needs. I feel like the leafs were a soft team with a soft coach and now so are we

How much were Keefe’s stats (like the PP stats) due to Auston Matthews and Co rather than his masterful coaching?

I was accepting of this happening, even slightly on the happier side, but watching this solidified it. Really hope it pans out!
