@Winnipeg Jets

[Dreger] Scott Arniel is the new head coach of the @NHLJets. Winnipeg conducted interviews with top candidates although Arniel was considered a frontrunner going into the process. Arniel is well respected by the players and has earned another shot at being an NHL head coach.

A shocking development. Who could’ve seen this coming

Can we please overhaul the special teams coaches at least?

  3. Spencie-cat

At face value. Two years ago to today, the team is better. How much does Arniel have to do with that? Iunno. Chevy gotta do something with the roster this summer tho so maybe better this is out of the way and he can get buying out and trading so he can get back to the hammock by July.

I don’t think there’s a team in the league more committed to being mediocre. Way to be bold TNSE.

Lol, they couldn’t have picked a shittier day to announce this. Ugh, whatever, let’s start the season already!

  6. Now let him hire a new staff and pls don’t keep anyone besides the goalie coach!

  7. First test is what he does with the asst. coaches…

Well, I guess it can’t be worse than whatever used parts are left in the NHL coaching bullpen.

Hope someone clips this in a year when he’s done an amazing job and we’re in the 2025 WCF.

    LFG!

He loves the city, loves the Jets and knows more about the game than anyone here and probably any of the other candidates out there. Let’s see what he can do.

It’s funny that we make fun of the league for rehashing the same 6 coaches as they get fired/rehired within 3 months, but then scoff at a new guy getting into the league. A guy that ran the bench this year for an extended period of time with success.

It’s like we can never be happy man.

  11. Interesting that they announced this late on a Friday afternoon which is usually bad news dumping time. It makes them look ashamed of it.

If they are proud of this news, why wouldn’t they make the announcement at 10 am?

    Way to go ARNIE .

This guy has major respect around the league.

I love it. Maybe mostly due to all the pissing and moaning in here. I wasn’t raised right.

  14. I’m excited to see what he can do with the team!

  15. MrMundaneMoose

A little disappointing but if the assistant coaches are changed too then maybe we’ll come out ahead. If Lauer’s back it’s extremely disappointing.

    What happened with Todd Nelson?

  16. SyrinxCounterparts1

Not surprised. It would be interesting if there are changes now that he’s full on head coach, but I expect another 1st round exit.

  17. PrarieCoastal

He was hired as the heir apparent, so this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

  18. TheGreatStories

This has been in the drafts since before they hired Bowness. I have zero expectations and zero excitement. Many GMs don’t have the luxury of going through 4.5 head coaches, so hopefully Chevy’s seat is warm enough to get us some defensemen

  19. PortageLaDump

I mean look at how well the loyalty and owner/former player man crush system did for the Oilers from 1999-2009

  20. Bahahaha. Due diligence my ass.

I’ll hope for the best like always but there is nothing that made him the best candidate. Such BS.
