  1. Discussion about the stint of the US adult men's team at this month's IIHF Top Division tourney begins a bit after the 2:00 mark of the episode of the Locked On Sens' podcast. To Brandon Piller's claim the relevant US team had been "at a huge disadvantage" (a bit after the 2:40 mark) compared to its Czech counterpart, Canada's adult men's team had beaten the same Czech team whose ranks, in that game, had included Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak of the Bruins. Yes it took OT for the relevant Canadian team to beat its Czech counterpart but thanks to goals by Dylan Cozens (Buffalo Sabres [scored the game-winner]), Dawson Mercer (Devils) and Brandon Hagel (Bolts), the Canadian team got done what it'd needed to. The Canadian team could've just extended the game into OT and finished 1st but displayed a will to WIN and a strategy, albeit flawed, that had gotten them there.

Quarterfinal action saw the relevant Canadian and American teams each face teams from the former Czechoslovakia, with the Canadian one having gotten to face its Slovak counterpart but the US one its Czech counterpart. Yes the Slovak team didn't give up in its quarterfinal against its Canadian counterpart but the Canadian team had wanted that win so much more and executed when it had MATTERED. The end of the:
    – 1st period had featured a 2-1 lead for the Canadian team
    – 2nd, a 3-1 lead
    – game, 6-3 lead, with Kraken d-man Brandon Tanev having scored what'd turn out to be an insurance marker at 5-1

The Canadian team on Lukas Dostal of the Ducks scored 4 goals on 26 shots while the US one scored none on 36. I don't buy the excuse that the US team faced a very good Czech team with a home crowd behind the latter. Canada's adult men's team so far has put up a 1-1-0-0 regulation win – extra-time win – extra-time loss – regulation loss record vs teams from the former Czechoslovakia, with a possibility of a 2nd game against the relevant Czech team depending on how the Canada-Switzerland and Czechia-Sweden semifinals go. The US team by contrast put up a not-so-good 0-0-1-1 record against teams from the former Czechoslovakia. The drought of post-1950 appearances by the US adult men's team in gold-medal games, other than World Championship tourneys that took place during Olympic tourneys, will continue into 2025. Following the cancelled 2020 tourney the relevant US team has medalled once while the Canadian and Finnish teams have each won multiple medals. The winners of this month's Canada-Switzerland and Czechia-Sweden semis will each get medals while the winner of the bronze-medal game also will.

  2. I was really hoping Brady and Co would get to the finals, against Canada.
Great show!!! Redblacks preseason game tomorrow (I think Ottawa finally has a QB), and the Titans baseball team's season is off and running, too.

  3. That was the most violent IIHF game I've ever seen lol. Nice to see though usually those refs are so annoying with their calls constantly
