I could take shot attempts in an NHL game. They aren’t going anywhere near the net, but I could do it. Doesn’t mean much unless they are dangerous.

Remember the game after Igor made 76 saves in a triple OT game, he came back fresh as a daisy and won.

I am getting a real kick out of this narrative that the league, its analysts, and a large number of NHL fans are subscribing too. The Canes and Panthers play a similar style. Puck possession and volume shooting. So far, fingers crossed, it simply has not translated into success against the Rangers and Igor. Firing pucks from every possible angle, wracking up a huge number of shot attempts, has not proven to be a reliable way to win games. The Rangers are much more calculated and skilled relying on creating dangerous chances and then finishing when the opportunity is there. Through 2 series the Rangers are 6-3 against this style of play and seems far more than a “fluke”. Keep them to the outside, keep the number of high danger chances low, then counterstrike with speed and skill.

Everytime Florida scores a goal I can here coach Maurice go into his Rocky4 speech. ‘He’s not a machine he’s just a man’.

I’ll always believe that just throwing the puck at the net is always a good strategy, considering a lot of goals aren’t scored clean in this league, but I’ll take a team that waits for quality chances if they have a brick wall (Igor) as their goaltender any day of the week.
