Sounds like Brendan Dillon may have interest is signing with VAN when July 1 hits. Big body, strong with the puck and local boy to boot. He would need to take a lesser cap hit than he had in WPG though to make sense for VAN.

Would be a great option for the top 4. There were rumblings around the deadline that the canucks had interest in Dillon. He's played a lot with Morrissey. Could allow us to trade hronek for a top 6 winger as well.

Thoughts?

Come on home….this should have happened years ago!!!

  2. Alextryingforgrate

Local boy usually means they would take less to play at home.

  3. AutomaticConstant695

Not being a naysayer, serious question: is he still a top 4 guy? I lost track of his career for the last half a decade.

  4. Makes sense for sure. A big part of the success of this Rutherford regime is finding cost controlled players that are gonna provide plus value for their cap hit. Look at Dak and Zaddy as prime examples of that.

I think this and Heinen would be the reasonable expectations not even because of the hometown discount factor but because they’ll be cost controlled which we’ll need after this upcoming season when the cost of the OEL buyout goes up

Yes Im sure this random dude on twitter who draws comics is a reliable insider lol

Dillon makes a ton of sense as a Zadorov replacement (assuming you can’t come to an agreement w/ Zaddy).

$7 million over 2 years is probably the upper limit of what I would do. Dillon/Myers would be a totally fine bottom-4 pairing.

The player they should really be after though is Dylan DeMelo.

  7. FWIW, jets fans are split on wanting to re-sign Dillon. He would make an ok depth dman signing at the right price. He’s also older than I thought at 33. But expecting him to take less $ than he made in WPG is asinine with the cap increasing.

Add – he would play behind Hughes and soucy on the left side. It doesn’t make sense to sign him lol.

    DeMelo and Dillon 👌🏻

For Zadorov and Myers (assuming we are unable to resign Zady to a reasonable cap hit)

    Who says no?

  9. AllthingskinkCA

I remember when they announced over the p.a when he was drafted

Zadorov dillion myers soucy bottom 4 is nasty

FYI: He’s 33 yrs old, LD out of New West. 6′ 4″. 225 lbs. His salary was $3.9m each of the last 4 years.

Averaged about 21 pts and 70ish pims the last 3 years.

Durable: missed only 8 games last 3 years.

AFPAnalytics has him projected at 2 years and $2.86m per year.

Imagine bringing trading Hronek and bringing Tanev, DeMelo and Dillon.

    Hughes – DeMelo

    Dillon – Tanev

    Soucy – Juulsen

  13. Lanky-Performer-4557

    Imagine this though…

    QH – Tanev
    Dillion – zadorov
    Myers – soucy

That’s a big ass D. Trade hronek for necas or top 6 winger

  14. I see him as an upgrade replacement for Ian Cole. He would be a downgrade replacement for Zadorov.

  15. Spookedchicken

Dillon is essentially a slightly smaller but 5 years older Zadorov so likely would be a cheaper and shorter term option. That would round out our left side decently: Hughes – Dillon – Soucy.

Personally I’d like more consistent upside from our back end though so it doesn’t all fall on Hughes. If there is any interest from Skjei to come to Van I’d hope the Canucks are in on that bidding. Having a left side of Hughes – Skjei – Soucy would be awesome.

  16. He says this every time he is a UFA. He will go to the team that offers him the most money, and that will not be Vancouver.

  17. Knight_On_Fire

I would almost never trade a top pairing RHD for a winger just based on principle, let alone a top 6 winger. Woof. That would be a downgrade. That winger better be pretty frackin good.

  18. MasterChrom

I’ve seen him play and no thanks. He’s basically a more experienced and expensive Juulsen. You guys hate it when Juulsen makes a bad read and goes in for a hit, only to get caught and the other team gets an odd man rush opportunity? Dillon does the same shit.

  19. nickharvey86

I went to high school with him. His mom was a big lady, I hope she’s doing well…

  20. PaperMoonShine

Sounds like another Ian Cole. He will be great at the start of the season and then his body will fade as the season progresses.

  21. Anishinabeg

He’s not very good. Spend a little bit more and keep Zadorov.

  22. PleasantEscape7290

Wondering how his hand is doing since his injury during the playoffs?

  23. BigRedBrendizzle

Sorry if it’s been answered here but didn’t he absolutely get his hand shredded? Is it okay? I haven’t followed up at all.

  24. Happy_Drafter

If he’s coming in then Myers is likely gone. Still leaves room for big Z, but I can’t see a world where Myers, Z and Dylan are on the blue line.

  25. wingdingcanuck

That guy is just a fan that pretends to have sources can we stop thinking his tweets mean anything

  26. JerbearCuddles

Zadorov replacement should he be deadset on 5+ mil. Dillon might be cheaper. But also a fair bit older. Averages roughly 18 minutes a game. But with Soucy also on the left side they’ll both be around that 18-20 minutes. I don’t think this signing frees us to trade Hronek. People never seem to care about what hand a player plays with. Dillon being left handed is more of a Zadorov replacement than a Hronek one.

  27. stayathmdad

He sure was a lot of fun to watch as a Thunderbird

  28. flyingboat

I was the captain of the club volleyball team than Brendan played for in high school. That is literally my only “one-up” on a pro-athlete, and that was 15-20 years ago now.

  29. socialcocoon

Trading Hronek is wild to me. RHD at his age and ability are an absolute premium in the league. Yes his unsustainable offense fell off a cliff in the second half and he wasn’t great in the playoffs, but when healthy he has a cannon of a shot and can be stapled to Hughes for the duration of his next long term contract (not to mention enticing Hughes to re-up when his contract is up).

I like Zadorov but he’s a 4-6 guy who wants to be paid like a #3.

  30. GoldenChest2000

    He’s a LHD?

If you sign him you’re paying Soucy 3.25M to be a bottom pairing guy. Dillon would have to take 1.5M x 3 or something for it to make sense, and even then if you can get Cole at 1.5M that would be better because he’s better defensively and on the PK.

Still think we should go for Matt Roy if he is interested in coming to Canada

  31. ImAnAfricanCanuck

not a big fan of Dillon’s game. I’d sign him to a one year contract, maybe a two year contract at most.

  32. Viperburn1

Oh he definitely a Tocchet kind of player. We get him and sign big Z, Myers at a discount hopefully and we are looking good. Hronek will be asking too much so we would need to find some to play with Hughes.

  33. Stelar101

He would be a decent replacement for Cole but would not be a replacement for Z
