The Biggest Development from the 2023-24 Bruins

a lot of eyes will be on him in training camp uh you know thinking that this is the year and and maybe it is I hope it is I hope he uh I hope he goes up there and turns into uh you know everything that maybe he hasn’t been in the American League you know that’d be great yeah I want to see him up because I think the trade value is so low now that I don’t think it’s like I don’t think he has any trade value yeah I talk to Pro Scouts all the time in Providence that watch them on a regular basis and he doesn’t have a lot of [Music] value and welcome into the Bruins beat presented by prize picks and game time go use that promo code clns over at prize picks to get a $100 cash back on that first deposit and go to game time use that promo code clns to get $20 off your first purchase terms apply I don’t know Mar Celtics are in the finals Red Sox are in full swing maybe you want to go to a game go use that promo code game time or promo code clns over at game time uh I am Evan marowski joined by Mark diver Mark what’s up nothing much Evan uh you know winding the hockey season down here uh haven’t been in a rink in what two weeks two weekends yeah I’m going to Mount St Charles tomorrow though for the big alumni tilt so that’s right I’ll get did I hear Hagen will be there I think yeah oh yeah Pelosi it’s it’s really to see the roster of the rosters of the two teams you know you know how good they’ve been the last since they started the academy but you look at those rosters and it’s like holy cow this they got so many good players so many good players what what time is that at on Saturday 11:00 a.m. 11 am. interesting admission I might try to well for listeners and viewers who are really into that who want to go watch like Chris Pelosi you mentioned will be their Bruin’s draft pick James Hagen’s future first you know first overall pick probably next year um there’s a lot of lot of talent I’m sure that who else is there you got to send me those rosters all right I’ll do that after uh after we finish here but uh this is this is how all our conversations go in the ranks it’s oh my God you should see what what’s coming up and I go oh what’s going on you gotta send me that it’s our whole conversations well it’s going to be good uh you know a bunch of kids who were in division one college hockey now uh you know guom rishard of Providence College uh um you know a couple of UMass guys uh it’s just a start studded collection of uh of alums it’s really you know for years the mount program the high school program has had alumni games not open to the public though but you know Brian barard you know guys like that uh xros would show up for that but that that’s a different uh a different thing than than what this is going to be uh and I would suspect that uh there will be some young studs there 13 14 12 13 14 with the program may be using this as an opportunity to showcase what they got going in uh in Wocket so A beautiful spring day in Northern Rhode Island uh why not why not is right why not is right um so for those who don’t know Mount St Charles is an academy now they the the great hockey jeene they have is an academy and basically they have a U14 a u15 U6 and a u18 team and in each age group they are one of the top teams in the country and they consistently especially on the 14 and 15 teams draw a lot of the top kids so I know a lot of Bruins listeners might not relate to that but a lot might and they got a lot of future potential Bruins down the road so they uh it’s been that way for the last bunch of years and obviously it’s a historic program historic school um so that’ll be interesting um if you’re in the area go check it out and I agree with you it’s probably going to be a recruiting tool for uh some of those young or not recruiting but you know say hey look what you could end up becoming uh to some of those younger kids uh down the road um last time I saw you was the mass hockey Festival a couple weeks ago we were uh we were with uh Jay pandolfo Freddy Meyer Jim Montgomery poor poor Monty he was getting uh every you know I Gotta Give Monty a lot of credit uh every little kid came up to him in that in that New England Sports Center to take a selfie with him and he took a selfie with every single kid a lot of respect to that it was the day after the the game lost too it was hours after less than 24 hours after the season ending loss on Friday night yeah and he he uh he not only I mean he was so approachable big smile with the kids you know it just uh it was great to see you know and I think he’s that he’s that kind of a guy he he has uh that kind of a personality that you know he’s open to uh he’s approachable you can go up and talk to him so good for him yeah good for him his son was there um so very good to see that and obviously again I think it wasn’t even like 15 hours after the loss right and uh he he went out the funniest part I came out of the bathroom and he was out in the middle of the The Rinks and there was like a group of young kids around him just like with phones like can I take a selfie can I take a selfie can I take a selfie and he just said yes and he always has a smile on his face and um so good for him I was happy to see that um but uh yeah that was the last time we were in the ranks together so maybe I I don’t know if I’ll be there to Saturday for the mount thing I I’ll have to see um but I’m curious for on the bruan side of things um as a po what were your feelings on this season I think it was a it was a really good season uh considering you know and I uh I thought that I have a tough time making the playoffs I thought they’d be right on the on the bubble and uh they were certainly a lot better than that you know I even early in the season you know and I think we we discussed this uh numerous times I didn’t think there were good I thought they had too many holes too many uh you know no number one Center uh just holes up and down the lineup and despite that uh they they had a terrific season a terrific regular season and uh they beat Toronto in the first round you know are they a better you look at the roster side by side do they have a better roster than Toronto geez I don’t know yeah probably I mean veteran areas but I mean Toronto clearly has the Firepower but Boston comes down to it Boston wins you know so to me the season was made uh when uh when pasta scored on the Breakaway there in at the TD Garden um I didn’t expect them to beat Florida uh I I just think Florida’s the better team I think they’re proen they’re in the process of proving that again against the Rangers uh and but as far as the Bruins I think you know there were a lot of positives uh this season Swan obviously had a had a terrific season uh a great playoff uh you know both goalies were were tremendous um they work some kids into the lineup uh you know uh Mason lorai over you know overcame his uh or or grew I guess is the right way to term it uh as the season went on and really in the playoffs he really showed flashes that uh that he’s going to be a factor in the in the next few seasons that was great to see Johnny beer you know we didn’t spend the whole year up top but certainly you I think you got to be happy with uh with the progress he made and where he stands uh going into his second year in the NHL and the guys that they kind of plucked out of uh obscurity a little bit the the guys like uh you know Andrew Peak turned out to be a good pickup uh you know Parker wspoon you know I after years of watching him play for Bridgeport I it never occurred to me that this guy could do what he did for for the Bruins but he was good uh so I mean overall I I think uh I I think you got to be happy with it or satisfied with it yeah they they they weren’t real cup contenders I don’t I don’t think I never thought that they were but uh I like the way that they hung in uh through you know just some horrendous refereeing calls that went against them but they hung in and and they uh you know they certainly uh gave Florida a terrific series and I I think uh that speaks to uh you know the captain and the coaching staff and all of that they they uh it there’s plenty there to uh to build on going forward I mean I think if we went back to September with the way the roster was with what they had lost and you know future us told September 2023 us and said this team is going to be in first place for most of the year they’re going to finish in second they’re going to beat the Maple Leafs in the first round and they’re going to put up a fight against Florida in the second and you know you said and we said all the things you just mentioned of low and ptra showed you flashes at the beginning and Swan became the guy in the playoffs and like all these different things you’d be like oh my God that’s terrific like and and and obviously you want to contend for cups and the Bruins you know definitely let opportunities pass them by against Florida and at times in games five uh and six against Toronto for sure I mean that you know they were not a perfect team but I think when you look at sort of the grand scope of it you can’t be mad at it and I know that you know obviously we have high expectations but I just think given what those expectations were at the beginning of the year um I think they surpassed them and and and you know I think the fact that now you know Jeremy Swan can be the guy now you know Mason lowai at least showed long-term flashes of being a top four left shot defenseman I mean you know um defenseman you know the Bruins head defenseman in the past look outstanding in playoff series before think about like Charlie McAvoy in 2017 Tory Krug in 2013 it’s on a smaller scale but like Conor Clifton in 2019 uh you know burst in and and made an impact um I think lowai up with you know more on the Krug and makavo side of like this guy is legit now like it’s a real chance he’s a top four guy for them I don’t know if he’s top four out of Camp next year and we can get into that in a bit but you you know that I think the ceiling with him is really exciting now it is and you know the the way he his you know the way his offensive brain works uh you know there aren’t guys there aren’t a lot of guys that uh that think the way he does I I don’t think when when he gets the puck and you know I some of the guys around the Bruins the development people even going back I don’t know two years ago were like this kid wants to make a difference every time he gets on the ice he wants to make a difference and that sometimes that’s great there’s other times when maybe it’s not there were times there A lot of times when it’s not he uh you know the the coaching staff didn’t quite come didn’t quite come right out and say it but you know some of the some of the moves he tried were uh not a good idea and uh but he but he reigned that in as the season went on uh but I mean his offensive brain and and the the way the way he can move for a guy his size is uh is really an eyeopener um and you know one thing going forward that I I’m sure this will this will come up and people will complain about it or or project it and well I wish it was a little harder defending I wish it was a little harder clearing the front of the net I wish he was a little more physical well I don’t think that’s who he is you know I don’t think think he’s going to be a guy in front of the net that uh just cleans house uh so I’m looking at him as I’m I’m happy with what he is and and not looking at what he isn’t at this point uh you know if he can continue to develop that offensive mindset and that offensive brain and the timing of knowing when to when to jump when to hang back I I’ll he’s going to be a good player for them for a long time there’s something that lowai can bring to this team as soon as next year that I think they’ve been missing for a couple years now um I want to get to that in a second but first a quick word from issues the Bruins had in the playoffs and throughout the season was the power play um and especially Charlie McAvoy running it uh at the top and there were you know question marks about that and they had some issues with that I think your potential future power play quarterback for that first unit probably should be lowai I mean given the way he played uh I know I don’t know if I probably talked about this with you but like makoy has so many duties in terms of penalty killing hard five on five matchups playing physical um I know he’s the highest paid defenseman they have but if you can take the power play off his plate a little bit and give it to lowai I think you see dividends there as soon as next year I I agree I I think uh that uh you know Charlie you know let’s face it a lot of the time he’s you know you you you want more from him on the power play you want more from the power play and and maybe it starts with him so you know having lorai maybe take over those duties or kind of ease into them maybe uh at the start of next year could be uh could be a positive and you know having too much on his plate you know Charlie I mean so Ray bour was a guy who did it all right he defended he was on the power play he drove the offense from from the back end you know and was a Hall of Famer obviously but uh you know should we be why why should we expect Charlie makoy to you know to reach that level or to you know to get to that that point uh he’s a terrific player uh and just entering the prime of his career he doesn’t have to be Ray bour he doesn’t have to be you know an all-tim uh in terms of doing everything defending driving offense all of it uh leadership you know let him uh take that power play off his plate and uh see if that you know that might that might help him and it might help the power play and again can still do the second unit and I think yeah he’ll get his time yeah and I think you know if he forces it in and and all that stuff like might be back on it I just think you got to change something and obviously I think they’ll have different Personnel next year we’ll get to that in a second um but I think with lowai at least you have a power playay quarterback someone who can drive offense someone who can facilitate someone who’s not afraid to shoot from the point um and I think that’s a good thing I think that’s a positive to have now going forward in your system and he’s like 65 so you do have that is he has good reach and and he has great hands for someone of that size yeah he really does he really does you just don’t see that in players uh like like him uh you know I don’t I hesitate to use the term unicorn because that’s maybe that’s a little over uh overused sometimes in uh talking about young players but he can do things that other guys can’t do so uh it’s going to be fun to see how develops here going forward it’s interesting you and I watch a lot of prospects who are in their draft year obviously locally especially we watch a lot of those guys and oftentimes when you talk to Scouts you know you hear you want picks that are easy to defend no matter what they turn out to be you know if a player is big if a player is really fast different things the the size element is always a thing the size element because you can defend that oh he was 63 he was 6’4 he was 65 I wanted to see what there you know a chance on him like Dean Loro is a big one this year there’s a lot of debate around whether or not he’s a first round pick so for those who don’t know Dean Loro is I think he’s 67 he was a St Andrews College this year uh they play a lot of prep teams basically U guy um center right shot really skilled put up like 80 points in 30 Games absurd numbers and there’s a lot of question marks around is he a first round picker is he not because he’s still so r six seven and he’s like 18 years old like that you’re going to be raw at that size at that age and I wonder like you know and apparently it seems to be you know when lorai was drafted I think it was a similar thing of hey this is a def a defenseman who just became a defenseman he 65 he’s raw but he’s very talented offensively let’s take a flyer on let’s take a chance on him and they took him in the second round so again that looks to be something that’s uh aging well it’s aging like fine wine instead of Aging like milk which is a which is which is a good thing um I want to get into the offseason I want to talk guys uh that that you like what what what are positions of need for them uh but first quick word from our friends over at the NBA guaranteed now let’s get back to the show the off season it’s quite the topic isn’t it it’s the only topic really so I guess it’s what we’re going on well and uh they have so much cap space all of a sudden uh which hasn’t been in the past you know they’ve been shopping at at the dollar store a lot of times uh and you know they got some great buys there in some cases but now they can uh they can kind of move up to uh I don’t know the Chestnut Hill Mall and make some do some shopping there uh and not have to worry about uh you know the the salary cap so it’s going to be interesting and you know I think uh this has been pointed out several times by other people I think uh and I’ll I’ll join in uh it’s not going to be as good as a lot of fans think it’s going to be you know I don’t think they’re going to get Jake gensel you know I don’t think they’re gonna get uh you know Stephen Stam Co is not coming here I don’t think could be completely wrong me you know uh and even if he even if he wanted to you know isn’t the best part of his career like in the rearview mirror what you know I I mean not to get off on a tangent on on that but you know the guys I like are guys like uh you know I like Tyler batzi you know I like what he brings you know the attitude the mindset you know I think he uh he showed that against the Bruins in the in the playoffs you know is he you know is he he’s not a perfect player by any stretch he has flaws but uh I thought he was good in his in his uh brief stretch here last SE or two seasons ago and I think he could help again uh at the right price at a at a a reasonable price um Brady Shay is another guy I really like you know they talked about you know Cam Neely talked about getting faster uh and while I suspect he was talking more about forwards than about defenseman you know great Brady sha is such a terrific skater I think he’d be an asset to have uh to have back there as far as the forwards I obviously they got to get a they got to get a top flight center uh that a line Driving Center is what they uh they’re really lacking that um maybe Lind Holm is the answer if if he uh isn’t looking for you know we don’t know what the expectations are for some of these free agents are they are they looking is Lind Holm looking for 11 million a year for five years or something something like that well if that’s the case then scratch him off the list have fun in Detroit get ready to learn Detroit Red Wings buddy yeah yeah and so I mean I’m I’ll be curious to see what are they willing to pay are they gonna make would they make somebody a a top Center coming here would they make him the highest paid guy on the team would they give him more than pasta would you know where would he slot in in in the uh in the salary structure so I think Lind Holm would be a would be a good uh a good fit uh you know I I there’s other guys out there who who would help certainly and I there’s probably someone in may be a trade or I guess it would have to be a trade but they’ll be there could be some under the radar guy you know the Bruins have have done this a bunch of times the the guy that ends up coming here is someone you never thought of oh my God every time so maybe that’ll happen maybe they’ll uh they’ll package allar and uh and maybe some other assets and and bring in a guy who none of us ever thought of but uh it’s going to be fun you know starting July one and going forward as the as the summer goes it’s going to be the rumors are going to be flying there’s already rumors out there obviously some ridiculous some not so not so ridiculous but I love sw’s uh talking about how uh you know almost appreciating the ridiculous rumors saying that it keeps attention on the team and and all that even though uh even though some of them are obviously far-fetched I love the the rumors keep us going on like for this podcast I’ll do whole shows on rumors I mean it’s perfect May June July please keep them coming we got to start some for our sake we got to just start throwing stuff out there you know that’s always a good it’s always a good way to do things I’m kidding of course um he mentioned some interesting points in there um Brady Shay that’s a name I’ve not heard brought up um from any guests I’ve had on um it seems to me like I’ve been more advocating on defense for a veteran guy like a brandan Dylan um I like him I like what he brings I like his track record to me because of what lowai can be I think defense I would rather spend less get a veteran again I don’t know what Dylan’s going to cost you but I think I’d rather have you know to start the season let’s just say hypothetically Dylan McAvoy LOL Carlo lowai Peak as your six and then if lowai continues to progress well that’s an easy thing you can put him right up with makoy bring Dylan down to the third pairing and that’s okay Shay’s tough I think CU Shay is going to get paid and I agree with you I think it’d be a wonderful addition I just don’t know with right coming up like is it worth it for that now clearly they are interested in top four left shot defenseman I mean I think they were in on Hanahan and you know clearly would not mind another guy um do you think that could happen where they go with a guy like Shay I have no idea no idea that’s just somebody I I like and I’ve always liked uh you know from his time when he when he played uh in the American League um but you know you can’t have too many you know not to dip into the barrel of cliches here but you can’t have too many good defensemen I agree I agree and you know a guy who can skate like he can and can move the puck like he can uh would help uh obviously it depends on where he would fit in the how much are you willing to give that guy you know I think he’s 30 years old so you know what are you g to give them uh how many years how much money that will factor into whether that’s a realistic you know hope uh but uh you know Brendan Dylan I’ve never uh I think Ryan Mel the Providence coach worked with Brendan Dylan when in the San Jose organization and uh I know someone else in in uh in the Pro game Who says that Brendan Dylan is like the the best teammate and the best guy no doubt he would be a good uh a good pickup I I was worried you’d be like I heard he was the worst person damn it all right cross him off the list that’s good to hear that’s how old is he though isn’t he like 33 something like that he’s older I’ll look it up he I think he’s like 34 He’s 33 okay so you know my uh I guess my fear or my I would be apprehensive that you know would he would he turn into the next Derek forbort would would he be a Whipping Boy uh in short order uh Sorry my phone’s going off here that’s fine that would worry me I mean I agree with you I agree but for I think they’re different I think they’re they’re different in that sense well I think I think Dylan is is uh not that I mean forbert was a tough uh was a tough guy but I think Dylan’s on another level from where forbert was in terms of fighting and stuff like that uh yeah but I mean I wouldn’t be against Brendan Dylan you know I think that kind of uh physical player uh would be an asset certainly and when you look at these playoffs you know and and you need guys like that let’s face it you need guys you need guys that will uh that will bang and are willing to fight and will stick up for their teammates and he certainly fits that category I agree I mean the athletic has Shay as the fifth best free agent and they have his projected next contract at seven years 7.4 million annually which is that’s a hefty price that’s a lot again but you know someone will give it to him I just don’t again I think the Bruins like that to me that money should be spent up front on a guy like lindol I think yes I I agree you you got to uh you got to slot if you’re going to go after a guy like Shay or someone similar you got to slot that make sure that fits in the salary structure and if if you’re giving him that much money then he probably doesn’t fit with Boston yeah and I I you know I think they have lindol at um they have his projected next contract at they just had it I don’t know what the article that has it now has previous contract in the space that used to say projected next contract so I think the projected next contract for lyol they have it like 7even years 7.9 million which again I’m fine with um I agree with you I think that you know money needs to be spent getting a line driving center now you bring up an interesting point of like would they pay someone more than poock and judging by the free agent class of centers right Lind Holm Chandler Stevenson who I also really like he’s a guy think that would bring speed yep I don’t think you’re paying more than poock for those guys I don’t and lindol is right there with them I don’t think you’re paying more than yeah I don’t think anyone’s getting more than pasta I you know that just would uh that would be un Brewing like to uh to make a move like that that’s just not how they’ve done business uh so I like Chandler Stevenson I think that would be a a terrific he’s not a number one Center is he a number two Center well I don’t know I I guess you can debate that but he’s a very good player he certainly brings speed uh he brings a lot of speed uh so I you know again depending on the how much money uh you’re giving him and what the term is you know I think he’d he’d improve the uh he’d improve the team without a doubt so you uh we mentioned rumors and the fun one right now is um I don’t know if you saw this one in the Ottawa son uh Lea soul Mark to the Senators for Jacob Chan a first round pick and another draft selection um that’s a very high price for so my uh when I saw it is a high price and you know you got a new GM going in there in uh in Steve stos uh or is this title GM I I don’t know but he he’s at the top of the uh he’s the guy making the deals in any case I don’t know if it’s is it is is is that the trade you want to make right out of the gate when you’re a new uh a new guy in that decision-making hierarchy I don’t know I don’t know they can figure that out but the most attractive thing to me my eyes lit up when I saw a first round draft pick I first round draft pick Ottawa has a lot of young players in the pipeline I I believe they have a lot of picks I mean that would be that would be uh what I would like to see is a first round draft pick does that make the Bruins better next year probably not probably not it’s probably the pick would be someone who’s you know playing Junior Hockey or college hockey next year not a guy who’s stepping into your lineup so there’s that Chan yeah I mean you know he’s a good player no don’t get me wrong but you know why did does this guy keep getting traded so much I know you know like that’s the thing I I don’t know so I would rather I would myself I would rather have the first round pick and maybe another pick or Andor Prospect and uh if you can get that I I’d like that but that’s not going to make you better next year uh but I think clearly I mean allar they they can’t can’t they can’t do the two goalie thing again they gota that was great it’s been great but it’s time to uh time to have Swan be clearly the number one guy have busy be the backup and get you know hopefully a hall for uh for allmark but uh it won’t be as much as you know when they make if and when they make this deal I can hear the afternoon uh radio show now bashing the Bruins for not getting more oh yeah pencil that segment in right now they that’s G whenever that’s gonna be a great blew it yeah the brues blew it yeah you know they they didn’t get enough they didn’t get enough you know so I don’t know like I said the draft pick M makes my uh my eyes light up because they really need they really need a uh a top young Prospect that’s something they don’t have at this point and without any picks it’s tough to uh you know tough to find those guys uh you’re not gonna find those guys late in the later rounds you’re just not and you just hit on an interesting point because I’ve been saying all along if you can get a first for Omar you take it it’s why like Colorado has a first like all you know do it for first you need it you need to be picking high in the draft you need an influx of young talent but in terms of getting better for now next year I think that added cap space makes you better next year because you can go out and trade someone else or you sign a free agency so like if you can if you can free up 5.25 million in cap space I think that’s where you get better for next year so that’s why I’m fine if you want to trade omark for a first and like a fourth like otta you know again I doubt it’ll be Ottawa because I doubt he would accept a trade there they have two firsts in this draft and they have four fourths now the Bruins need high draft picks but if it was a first round pick and a fourth let’s just say hypothetically like I’m okay with that if you want to do a first round pick and a prospect I’m good with that now I know that people want like you know Lena omark for a top six center and a and a first and this like if that trade pops up then sure or like you want to do something with Marty NIS down in Carolina okay but this team does need a first this team needs to pick a high level player they need to do it it’s been tooo long since they’ve done it um well one thing has is uh and he’s not I wouldn’t say he’s a he’s a number one Center but you know Shane Pinto is a is a really good player really good young player uh probably a number two Center uh you know if they got him you know I’m kind of thinking out loud here he wouldn’t all Mark for Pinto that’s not going to fly uh you need more than that but what if he was part of it you know that uh that could work that could work you get a young a top a top pick and a good young player like Pinto you know that’s not bad that’s not bad no the gambling the gambling stuff aside you know we’re not I’m not even gonna touch that because I don’t know what the hell happened there I don’t think anybody does uh but uh he’s a terrific he’d be a terrific broom uh Pinto would he would be and he’s big too so the add size think 63 um I think it works and the other thing I mentioned this Conor Ryan on poke the bear about Ottawa and again this all hinges on omark accepting a trade there which I I doubt he would I think it’d be more likely it’d be like Carolina or New Jersey or a team that’s just competitive but the interesting thing about Ottawa is they do have like they have as many they have a lot of those young picks coming they have a lot of young players but they also have current guys who are good de Brink it CL jaru yeah so I don’t know maybe there’s a they can convince him you know an auta might be kind of um uh what’s the word adamant about trying to compete now to satisfy a guy like clo jaru um again I don’t know thinking out loud here with with Ottawa stuff but along the lines of prospects because you just mentioned it and and this has been a topic a lot of you know people say oh on defense you don’t need a Dylan you don’t need a veteran just bring up a guy do the Bruins have anybody in Providence now and I’m not counting beeer or loo or lowai or ptra because they’re they’re up but do the Bruins have anybody now that can in Providence that can step in next year or could potentially step in next year and make an impact off the top of my head I would say no uh but then uh you know Parker Wallis spoon did it this year uh you know after a starting in Providence you know there’s a guy Mike Callahan okay I I feel like he uh maybe didn’t have the second half of the year that that it looked like he was he started off strong faded a little bit in uh you know in the second half uh I’m thinking maybe maybe he could be the seventh D playing you know as needed but uh I would uh I wouldn’t take that to the bank by any by any stretch but in terms of anyone else no I don’t think they they’ve got uh guys down there that that are ready ready to uh to step into an NHL lineup no what about Fabian lysel well I’m kind of hoping that they pencil him in in in Boston to start the year one reason being I’m sick of watching them in Providence you know uh and I I’m curious to see how it would go in in Boston you know excuse me because uh you know his uh it would be interesting to see if the coaching staff up there you know what what would their reaction be to this guy you know that you know for lack of a better term doesn’t play the right way a lot of the time okay the Bruins talk about that all coaches talk about playing the right way all the time you know there’s too little of that going on with uh with this kid uh and people you know like in the fan base people are always making excuses for him oh the Swedish World Junior coach he didn’t like them there was a personality thing there then uh you know the kid gets hurt and he it takes takes him forever to get back in the lineup and you know the team really needs him and he’s like no I’m not ready I’m not ready I mean I I want to see how that goes over at the NHL level uh I’m sure it’ll go great oh yeah yeah and you know the flip side of that and this is another thing that the the fans keep saying oh he’s young he’s young yeah he’s young but you know is he all of a sudden going to be this totally committed uh Blood and Guts type player uh if you put an an NHL paycheck in front of him well we can hope but uh you know I don’t know i’ I I would like to see him in Boston just just to see what happens see what happens oh this is a kid who thought came down to Providence talking about what a good camp he had last fall like there’s kind of a self-awareness issue there that you know he didn’t have a good camp nobody he’s the only one say he had a a good camp if he had a good camp you know they’re dying to plug a guy like that into the lineup in Boston and when he’s ready uh so I mean he’s still work in progress they have been patient theyve been patient with him it’s only been two years but you know at the end of two full years as a pro even though he’s yeah he’s young uh I would have hoped for more uh more progress from him but uh we’ll see uh I think he’ll be uh a lot of eyes will be on him in training camp uh you know thinking that this is the year and and maybe it is I hope it is I hope he uh I hope he goes up there and turns into uh you know everything that maybe he hasn’t been in the American League you know that’d be great yeah I want to see him up because I think the trade value is so low now that I don’t think it’s like I don’t think he has any trade value yeah believe I talk to Pro Scouts all the time in Providence that watch them on a regular basis and he doesn’t have a lot of value you know he just doesn’t well that’s the thing and I think a lot of people say oh you know you can use lysell as a trade chip and yeah maybe you could two years ago I don’t think that’s the case anymore I think he’s more of a throwin now at least what his and that’s his stock if he turns into being a great NHL player then awesome like but I’m saying right now there’s not a lot of value because I and I I concur with on that um and that’s why I want to see him up here I think the problem is I don’t know if they have the spots because you know is he going to be a fourth liner I don’t know like your third line seems pretty set for next year with Frederick um potentially ptra unless he starts the year in Providence which could we could do geeki um brazo like you have you’re full of third lers Lord knows you’ve got enough third liners to think a ship but uh so I don’t know where he saw in that’s the thing well and I mean this phrase has come up a couple times regarding him uh discussing him with uh with Pro Scouts and Executives and such is uh he’s an independent contractor okay he’s an independent contractor and that you know boy that goes against everything that the Bruins like to think they stand for right team first everyone one pulling the rope and you know so I I mean you know like I said I hope I hope he gets there and I hope he does well but uh I’m skeptical and you know what you watched him for two years now so you get to be skeptical like I I I completely I get that I completely agree with it um yeah it should be interesting what happens with lysell independent contractor is a hell of a way to describe someone independent Contra he do don’t in a team sport yeah he does his own thing um anyways uh Mark what can the people look forward to from you over the summer and into the fall uh probably not a lot uh I uh you’ll be on here you’ll be on here I’ll be on yeah I’ll be on uh I’ll be on here I’m I’m going to uh development Camp if uh you know will they have prospects there will they have draft piics there well that would be nice but I think it’s going to be a lot of familiar faces uh you know the guys we saw last year maybe a couple sprinkled in uh from the most recent draft but the guy I’m really and you know not to go off on a tangent here but the guy I’m excited to see at development Camp is a is a kid named gleb verev from Colorado College excuse me undrafted big kid 6364 Power Winger you know not the great he’s not a uh you know he’s not a a kid with a set of golden hands but his hands are good enough and I think he’ll be a top free agent uh in college hockey this coming season he’s coming to Bruins Camp I think that he’ll be uh he’ll be a player to watch uh you know of course coming to Camp doesn’t you know you like to think it gives them maybe an inside track back and signing him but you know they had ree gabber here they had uh Ben Meyers here in recent years you know top guys in the the free agent Market uh in college and neither one of them ended up here so you know you can’t really count on the fact that he’s coming to mean that you know at the end of next season he’s gonna he’s going to land uh an NHL contract with Boston but it’ll be good to see him see him up close and you know what he brings I think uh you know I’m I’m looking forward to that uh you know at that development Camp uh and gez I don’t have a lot else on the plate uh this summer it’s going to be uh going to be a lot of uh lot of uh rest and relaxation I guess I got I got my uh I got my tomatoes in the ground I got my pumpkins you know growing so uh you know you know think of me like in the uh in The Godfather when uh when he’s in the tomato garden with his grandson uh Godfather with the the Hat the sun hat uh that’s gonna I’m gonna be striking that pose uh my granddaughter is gonna be running around in and out of the uh the tomatoes and I’m just going to be sitting there maybe drinking some wine you know who knows get let get some wine why not yeah why not why not come on you you deserve it um that’s perfect and you’ll be at the Foxboro Sports Center every Wednesday with me I will so I will and you know the rosters there uh that’s going to be fun that’s G to be fun yeah good 09s A lot of those kids you know will be there’ll be as we know from past experience there’ll be weeks where nobody’s there because they’re all at National camp but uh you know there’s going to be a lot of good players there a lot of lot of uh fun players to watch and see and kids will kids will come out of nowhere kids we didn’t know kids we didn’t expect much up much of will uh will emerge and it should be fun it it uh it always is it always is it always is and it’s you’re right it’s good to see kind of for the next season uh and there’s a lot I mean you’ve been there way longer than I have there lots of former nhlers have gone through there um so it’s always a fun event to to watch and to see kind of the future um anyways Mark always a pleasure uh that’s been this week’s Bruins beat presented by prize pick and game time I’m 1. Lohrei's offensive potential is exciting, but he's still a giveaway machine in his own zone. He needs to get better defensively.

  2. If they don't hit on free agency then they will suffer for a long time and when they start drafting in the first round again it will be late round picks as they usually draft at the bottom of the round.
