McDavid on preparing for tonight’s Western Conference Final Game 6 / 2.06.2024

Conor how do you focus on just a game today when you know what’s at stake and you know what’s possible um well I mean it is just a game here um you know that’s uh what we’re preparing for um yeah feels like any other day do you want that in the back of your head at all just to as motivation you not need it at this stage there’s funny motivation there um yeah everybody knows at stake what’s at stake obviously but uh like I said we’re preparing like it’s a normal game day um things feel pretty pretty regular around here so being able to deal with that atmosphere make it making it work for you as opposed to being too much pressure is that something that comes with experience for a player you develop over time the atmosphere in terms of like your crowd the crowd and stuff they’re always bringing lots of energy um I’m sure they’ll be excited tonight um you know but yeah you can definitely feed off of it um you know definitely brings brings good energy this is a fan base has had a lot of disappointment over the years here what’s it like to have this opportunity to do something like this in front of them tonight um yeah it’s exciting we love playing in front of our fans and and uh yeah we’re excited for the opportunity to uh hopefully bring them a little Joy Connor um on a day like today uh whether you’re captain or part of the leadership group do do you try and keep it as normal as possible so everyone else want follow as that lead or is there anything that you or Darnell or or Zach or any of the guys would do today that might be different just because of what’s online no honestly I think uh you know as as a leader in the room or you know anyone that’s part of the leadership group you’re always kind of taking the the temperature of the room and and seeing what uh what the vibe is and and honestly um you know it does feel just like a a regular game day you know if there was you know any sense of nerves or anxieties you know um maybe you would say something but you know I’m not sensing any of that Conor you guys basically pulled this back from the brink a couple games ago down to nothing early on what has been the difference in your mind since then um yeah that’s a good question I don’t know we we we’ve just been playing our best hockey um you know we’ve been uh for checking well um you know we haven’t been giving up too much which is good um you know they’re a really good Rush team we’ve been doing a great job of limiting that um and limiting their chances um as a whole so yeah just been playing good hockey what would you say about your group’s ability to adapt maybe you know get a feel in the first few games and if it’s not quite working try things adjust that sort of thing yeah Dallas plays a little bit of a different game um you know they play um maybe a little bit of a longer game than we’ve seen um just in terms of stretching Wingers out High and um you know they Rim a lot of pucks they they they they punt a lot of pucks out into the neutral zone so um you got to adapt to that you know I felt like early on in the series they were maybe catching us uh maybe in between and getting some looks off the rush but um since then I think we’ve done a good job of um understanding what they’re trying to do and and and limiting that
