Igor’s rumored $12 million AAV would be 13.04% of the total salary cap in 25-26 For reference, here’s how the cap hit percentage stacks up against some other big goalie contracts: Roberto Luongo: 15.34% Carey Price: 14% Henrik Lundqvist: 13.67% Sergei Bobrovsky: 12.27% Andrei Vasilevskiy: 11.66%

Adding: Igor will turn 30 in 2025-26 extension year. Any long term contract we offer will likely make him a Ranger for life.
Hopefully he starts there and negotiations come down to around 9.5-10.5 million.
Legit gonna be buying out Panarins contract to afford this
Again this “rumor” was a number Mollie Walker made up 3 days ago to generate clicks. There is zero evidence that he’s seeking that number and until it’s confirmed by his agent, Igor or the FO this is just the 24 hour news cycle making shit up then having a bunch of talking heads treat it as gospel when it’s really just people working in a dying industry desperately trying to to grab attention during a slow news time.
I think they’re able to find a middle ground. The argument that you can’t win with a goalie eating up your cap is ludicrous.
What a relief that this franchise is going to repeat the sins of the father and less then a decade later.
Elite level goaltending doesn’t win cups anymore. Those days have long since past. Actually they never existed.
Was Matt Murray an elite goaltender? Was Corey Crawford an elite level goaltender? Or what about Binnington, Hill, Holtby, Kuemper, Chris Osgood? I could just keep going and going.
You know how many cups Hasek won in his career as the starter? How about Price or Lundqvist? What about Bobrovsky?
Overpaying for a top level goaltender would just be such a stupid mistake because as all of us just witness…it will never get you over the hump. It will get you close. And make you constantly feel you are closer then you really are. In the case of Hank ….3 wins away. But you will never win. The amount of times a average goaltender wins the cup vs. a elite level one it is not even a competition.
Yes Richter was elite. Vasi is elite. These are blips in the history of the NHL. IMO Vasi hasn’t won a real cup because the covid years come with a asterisk. For crying out loud they had to beat a BS montreal squad cause that was just how the covid divisions made the playoffs.
If Igor wants 10+ million a year for any term…the team should pack his bags and watch him leave. Short term …yes it will suck, but if Cam Talbot/Anta Ranata can turn into starters ….then I am sure we can find another goalie somewhere. Talbot has 265 career wins for 69th all time. LMAO….that guy could never even hold a match next to Hank.
If the Oilers win the Cup does anyone think Skinner is going to be considered a elite level goaltender? LOL….come on people use your heads and not your hearts.
Not a bad deal considering he’s 50% of the reason the Rangers made it as far as they did in the playoffs this season. (Note: probably a slight exaggeration)
