Should be a solid assistant coach for the Leafs. He’s got loads of experience from his time with the Islanders, especially in developing young players and improving team defense. Plus, he’s worked under Barry Trotz, so he knows his stuff. By all accounts he’s practical and relatable, which could help with team chemistry too.

“The Maple Leafs also announced assistant coach Dean Chynoweth will not be returning”
I posted in the daily talk thread earlier but apparently he handled a lot of the technical side of the game under Barry Trotz and was a big reason for a lot of his team’s success.
The thing that worries me is that the Islanders were one of the worst defensive teams under him last season and they had a really bad PK but it is ultimately up to Berube with how they play and some coaches are just not cut out to be a head coach but are really good associate or assistant coaches.

I like it. Felt he overperformed with the islanders roster. Imo he was fired for a new coach bump, which did help them sneak in the playoffs.

Van Ryn likely stays.
Sanford I don’t think they’d replace him. But is Boucher next to go?
