[Griffith] ” [They] tried really hard before the playoffs to get the deal together but couldn’t agree on number of years.” “Since the playoffs They didn’t hold any contract talks. As much as Big Z wants to stay, it’s looking more and more that we are going free agency.”

    Before the playoffs – 4.8 x 5 … after the playoffs 6×6!

It sucks, but I’m glad the team is showing restraint now and not getting into contracts that will age poorly.

  3. It’s great to have a management team that’s on the ball with this type of stuff… especially after Benning’s “ran out of time” quotes lol

  4. I love big Z but his numbers weren’t even very good with us (outside the playoffs)

You cant pay a massive contract for 12 good games from a guy who has 650 games of being a 5D

  5. Would be interested in the numbers. Based on the wording, the price was there but the number of years wasn’t?

Fair. We’re not in a position to overpay, deserved or not, to have 2 good years then 4 or 5 handcuffs. In 2 years, we will do thos to get us over the top. But not yet

Glad we have a management group that seems to be able to think rationally about these contracts

  8. Rutherford and Allvin are very pragmatic in what they do. They get cost controlled players that have potential to punch above their weight. Dak is the perfect case example of that. Zaddy, you could argue was another player that followed that trend.

The value is from these guys playing above their cap hit. Once they’re asking to be paid for their value, it becomes harder for this management group to justify. Dak at less than 1 mill will be a lot different compared to Dak at 3-4 mill, especially if he underperforms that new contract.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we let most of the UFAs walk and find equivalent guys that want less. Out of the UFAs, I think Myers and Blueger are most likely to be re-signed since their ask will be much cheaper and reasonable

I don’t know about yall, but as much as I loved this group and the run we had I’m so fucking happy Jim n Pat don’t see this run and overpay everyone who over performed this year. Yes I love Z and Joshua, yes we need to replace that toughness, but you can’t give 10 mil of your cap to two guys who play on third line/third pairing.

Hronek made Hughes a lot better and if he’d take 6.5 he’s one of the only guy I really want back. Everyone else I think is replaceable in free agency.
