The Dallas Stars going forward…

The Dallas Stars don’t reach their ultimate goal of winning a Stanley Cup but they reached the Western Conference Finals and overall had a very successful season. They have some contract decisions they will have to make this off-season and the one following. What do you believe the Dallas Stars should do? 1. I have a feeling the Stars are only going to get better next year. The young talent emerging and improving, the vets continuing to produce, and an elite young goaltender. Guys like Bourque and Bichsel on the way is also something to look forward to. If they can keep even one of Duchene and (more importantly) Tanev, they’re gonna be even more dangerous than this year

  2. Sad to see Pavelski not win it all, but he isn’t the first great to not win the big one. Stars future is bright, tons of young talent moving up and showing that they have what it takes to be those next guys up. By god though fix the special teams, this series was special teams failure through and through.

  3. Despite not going to the Finals, the Stars should be happy, and proud of themselves, for being able to make it to the third series. Many teams, good ones, didn’t make it past one or two. Getting to number three is a big accomplishment and is evidence that this team has what it takes and will likely just get better.

  4. Gotta try and keep Tanev, can sign dellandrea steel and nils to like 1mill (maybe not nils) for 1-2 years each, harley can get a bridge deal for around 4-5 mill until more money becomes available, and if Duchene leaves it will suck but I think they can manage. That leaves a couple million leftover that they could either save for extensions to kick in (wyatt and otter) or try to bring in more reliable d men/playoff depth scorers

  5. I think as long as the team keep enough cap to keep our young core of Oettinger, Heiskanen, Robertson, Hintz and Johnston around long-term then the Stars are always going to be challengers. Guys like Harley, Stankoven and Bourque are just added bonuses at this point – the scouting team did an insane job this past few seasons. Benn and Seguin are only going to get cheaper you'd imagine, and with the momentum the team has players might be willing to accept slightly more team-friendly deals to stick in a place they know might get them a cup.

For this off-season I hope they prioritise Tanev and giving Harley a nice deal, and bring in someone else to bolster our D. As for Duchene, it would be nice to keep him around but only if it'll allow the team to invest in making our D better.

  6. As a Stars fan I have no clue on what happened to our team. Crucial game 5 and we played terrible. Do or die game 6 and we give up to PP goals. Generally in this series our PP and PK was terrible. I still do rly like our team, and I think we can definitely run it back next year

  7. The Hyman goal in game six was a goal that would have been saved by good positioning. Look at where Oettinger is standing when the puck is shot: he's not square at all to the shot! This results in him having to try to reach with the blocker, and understandably, he ends up just missing it. It was a high-danger situation and those do make it difficult to react appropriately in time, but that's one you really want to have.
