Marner is a way better and way more valuable player than Nylander. I don't understand the logic behind moving off Marner but keeping Nylander. Honestly I don't see why not keep all 3, since we're getting $11M back from Tavares next summer anyways
Nylander isn't worth even close to $11.5M, he's a $9M player. Marner has 111 more career points in 27 fewer games. Marner is +110 career, Nylander +24. Marner was a Selke finalist last year and always plays PK, Nylander doesn't play any D. There's already a massive offensive gap between Marner and Nylander but imagine how much bigger it would be if Marner had those 3-4 PK mins per game redirected to even strength time like Nylander. And imagine if Marner didn't puy as much effort into D. He'd probably have +200 career points over Nylander instead of just +111. Nylander just isn't close to as good as Marner. Even in the playoffs Marner has 50 points and is a +10, Nylander has 43 points and is +1. So this whole notion that Nylander shows up on the playoffs and Marner doesn't has no basis in reality
I agree Marner hasn't lived up to his contract. He hasn't been a $10.9M player. He's been a $9.5M player. And I could see him being worth $10.5M on this next deal. Paying him $12M+ like he wants us definitely an overpayment. But it's less of an overpayment than Nylander at $11.5M. Nylander is a $9M player
A good buddy of mine who's always a fantastic fighter. Anytime we got into a scrap he would always pull off something super spectacular. Whether it be jumping off a picnic table or throwing someone on top of a car and jumping on the car…. He says whenever you do something spectacular like that people notice. People tend to talk about the fight and how spectacular it was. I feel Mitch Marner does the same. He does these spectacular moves which warrants the name magic Marner or magic Mitch…… They're such spectacular situations that we talk about it you think is this great player. When you get Max Domi to take over his spot and do it just as well with more grit. That definitely gives you a better perspective on what type of player he actually is.
for what marner does he's worth 7.5-8m at most. he doesn't lay big daddy hits, he'snot a defensive savage, he doesn't score big goals. he's a set up man which we saw domi last of of season do the same and have great chemistry with matthews and he gets paid 28% of what marner gets paid.
marner scores a hat rick in the first week of next season and the fans are going crazy. Remember this in October.

You meatheads know nothing about hockey. Marner gets better every year. 21/22 season 97 pts. 22/23 99 pts. 23/24 94 pts but missed 10 games to injury. You know Sidney Crosby scored 94 pts. Connor McDavid scored less than 94 points. The Leafs didnât lose bc of Marner. They lost bc Matthews didnât score and goaltending failed.
Players are paid for their regular season performance. During the regular season Marner excels. Youâre wrong to say Marner is stealing money.

If you guys are geniuses, then what is the fix for Toronto after they fire your dudes?
