Who remembers the Vancouver Voodoo?

Had an awesome time watching the games in the summer. A more wallet-friendly option than Canucks games, and they opened up the rink pre-game for a public skate. Games were super fast-paced. If I recall correctly, they also ended up playing at GM Place for a season. Ah, the '90s 🙂.

I’ve had the “THE VOODOO THAT YOU DO!!!” theme song stuck in head for 30 years

I still have a team-signed jersey somewhere! Their jerseys were so rad!

Jose Charbonneau played for the Voodoo, along with his fringe NHL career.

  4. I do! I went to one of their games as a kid after I’d broken my wrist. We banged so hard on the seatbacks in front of us (along with everyone else, as you can hear in the beginning of the clip) I broke my cast and had to have it redone. The doctor said I was 1 or two smacks away from re-breaking my wrist lol

    Great times…

  5. I really expected DT’s voice to change when he said “wheeling and dealing”

Dreamt of playing for them growing up. There was a time when I thought I’d play for the jr A Victoria Salsa then the Canucks. I’d play for the voodoo in the off season. Believe me, I had it all figured out in the driveway.

  7. Pretty sure the Voodoo had an appearance in Happy Gilmore

Anyone remember those clappers they used to hand out at the Voodoo games? Man those days were comfy.

I’m born and raised in California, huge Canucks fan since the early 90’s…. Used to work Arco Arena doing set up for the Sacramento River Rats. Got to play on the rink before games, mingle with the team, got a some free roller equip, and met Manon Rhéaume when she played for the team. 17 year old me was living the dream. What a time to be alive.

    I miss the RHI.

I was in Penang, Malaysia in 2012 and recognized a sign from distant memory; walked a bit closer and sure enough, it was the Vancouver Voodoo neon sign that was now a bar sign. Pretty sure the bar was called Voodoo Bar or something.

  11. I member!..always regret not picking up a jersey

I loved that team… Best part of my grade 4-6 summers!!

Definitely remember. Very fondly, too. The hot summer nights and heading out to the PNE for games, high fiving the hot cheerleaders and taking in all the action on the “ice”.

A big memory I have is Tiger Williams getting a penalty shot. He was the player coach, right? The whole barn was absolutely on fire for that penalty shot. And it was extra special for me since I was a huge fan of Tiger when growing up watching the Canucks in the 1980s.

I’m sad the league never really survived. I still think it could have done well if managed properly.
