On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we discuss areas the Wild should look to draft (while maintaining the Best Player Available mantra) based on their needs in the future. We discuss the goalie position with no clear cut prospects behind Jesper Wallstedt as well as defense with Jared Spurgeon and Jonas Brodin getting older. We also take a look at the first Locked on NHL Mock Draft which had the Wild taking Anton Silayev at 13. We look ta other options based on how the draft board played out. We finish by looking at whether or not the Wild should kick the tires on Patrik Laine after reports of him being unhappy in Columbus have surfaced.

Wait huh?
Hey everybody! Here is today's Listener Question! What would you consider the biggest need for the Wild in this year's draft? Could be a position, a particular skill, anything! Comment below!
Defense. Seth, how do you think the Capitals acquiring CapFriendly will affect the Wild? Do you know if it will in any way?
Looking at the roster I could see one of three guys jumping out. Wallstedt is the obvious front runner but Khusnutdinov or Olgren could easily surprise. If either or both of these guys hit 15-20 goals,
maybe 30-35 points ( doubtful but not out of the realm ) the season could take a different turn. As for the draft, you nailed it! Take the BIG D who is compared to Victor Hedman – ( Silayev ) would be a dream pick. I also love pedigree players, Tij Iginla is intriguing. A few other names, Cole Eiserman was brought up by Joe Smith, – again, grab the best player at the time. Yakemchuk, Helenius, Catton, have also been mentioned.
For the future, bulk up and surround the skill players with some nastiness. You can find these guys in the later rounds but bring in some brawn. Next summer bring in some high end free agents with big heart and big scoring for some instantaneous results. 12 more months until the Wild is free from cap hell.
