What a year. No shortage of drama and memories. Good stuff starts at 1:38.

    – Habs win cup, squeeking into playoffs and eliminated the heavily favored Bruins juggernaut of Orr and Esposito in the first round.
    – Habs lose best defenseman Serge Savard to a second broken leg
    – Habs obtain an aging Frank Mahovolich and he has a career scoring season
    – Beliveau scores his 500th and retires in style with cup
    – Dryden joins habs as rookie from Cornell University at end of season and takes Habs to Cup; nicknamed the “Octopus” by Bobby Hull.
    – 3 coaches: Claude Ruel resigns because he can’t stand the media BS; Al MacNeil takes over from farm team and wins cup, but resigns over language controversy (he can’t speak French); Habs hire bilingual Scotty Bowman from Saint Louis.
    – Guy Lafleur, Marcel Dion, and Richard Martin tear up the junior league; Lafleur picked 1st overall by the Habs, has slow start with Habs in the fall and is announced a failure by the Quebec press

Edit: Narrated by Rene Lecavelier, a pro and several levels above the bottom feeders, rumor mongers, and muckrakers that dominate the Montreal media; this is how it’s done people

I remember it fondly. It was the first year I discovered hockey and it made me a Habs fan for life.
