I’m critical of Matheson’s game and like a lot of people here, I tend to focus on the negative. But we have to recognize how much upside he has.
The narrative that he’ll be too old by the time we compete is crazy. He skates so well it won’t be an issue. This guy wants to play here and is doing everything he can to earn it. I strongly feel we should keep him. None of our young LDs are projected to be any better than Matheson was at 20-21.
The bottom line is our young studs need to take 1D away from Matheson through their performance rather than through a trade. Inner competition is good.

We need to stop falling in love with players… If you can get another top 12 pick for him, you trade him. If all you can get is a late first and a b prospect, then you keep him
