The Predators haven't won a single round in 6 years with Saros. And as we have seen in the case of Vegas and Colorado, elite goaltending is a luxury rather than necessity. The Preds need to improve their roster, and bringing in an elite 1C will not be cheap. If the Preds want to keep Askarov as a backup into his late 20's, then he will be a wasted pick. The Preds passed on Jarvis, Lundell, and Mercer for him. The Preds should reserve the 8M+ potentially for Saros, and save it for the future 1C.
"…BUT IM NOT ELLIOT FRIEDMAN…."🤣😂🤣😂
Saros is my young daughter’s favorite player. The Preds fan in me just wants what’s best for the team, but the dad in me wants Saros to retire in Nashville. Lol for that reason alone, we should throw ALL the money at Saros and sign him long term! 🤣
For me, it comes down to Saros’s contract demands for his next contract. I would love to keep him if it is reasonable and keeps cap space to add another impact center. If he needs Hellebuyck’s deal, I’m on the trade side of the fence.
I think part of the reason Saros had so many starts is the coaches wanted to give him ample time to work out his early season "slump". I don't mind them having tried that approach, but perhaps fewer starts is a better idea for this year. Plus, they'll want to groom Askarov if Lankinen is lost.
I believe they have relied too much on Saros putting him into harder situations. He is a valuable piece but they need to help him out. Saw too many games where they weren’t in front of the net helping Saros.
