Had a feeling he’d come back to us.

Depth on defense is always good.

  2. Depth D, can be buried in the minors if needed. Does not effect us if we are pushing for Zadorov/Myers or other UFA.

Depth RHD, had a quiet 23-game stint last season with the team but that’s what you hope a depth defenceman should be. Can’t be mad at league minimum for a guy you know can tag in when injuries hit.

Busy week for us and I doubt we’re anywhere close to done.

Probably gave everyone a few weeks off to decompress from the playoff loss now back to business.

  5. Hronek was 1st on the priority list and naturally Mark Friedman was next.

  6. Kind of surprised he signed with us considering he was riding pine since December basically

That 3RD spot will likely be a rotation between Juulsen, Friedman, and whomever deserves a look (McWard)

Im not going to complain about the #8 defender on a league min deal.

That said, Nick Blankenburg was on my wishlist.

Honestly another common Chef Allvin W getting a cheap 7th defenseman who played 54 games for us, in exchange for Rathbone who just had 24pts in 67 AHL games for the Penguins.

    >I’ve rarely seen a depth player more dialed in day-to-day – when he got in, at practice, morning skate, in the press box – than Mark Friedman was last season with the #Canucks

    >Totally understand why Vancouver would want to keep a versatile, competitive guy like that around.

Good depth d man that knows his role when he steps into the lineup

  11. Always good to have depth defenseman that know the system and can slot in seamlessly during the season.

  12. Brodie9jackson

Better to chip away at your 7th dman/13th forward depth guys first so you know exactly what to spend to fill the rest of the group out

I don’t hate this signing at all. League min, good depth. Frieds played some good minutes for us early in the season when we had a lot of injuries. Good for him getting an extension, makes me think he’s probably a really good teammate as well.

Good signing at that salary. He was fine in a limited role which is all we can expect from him, and we need a few guys earning under a mil to round out the roster.

  15. intelligentx5

He was good when we needed him. I can dig this.

Why didn’t he announce the deal himself? 😏

Solid depth player. Good to have him back for another year

  18. JauntyGiraffe

Welcome back. Good insurance guy. Usually ready when called upon. Reliable as a 7th or 8th guy

  19. Bourne_Endeavor

Glad he’s being given a chance to crack the bottom pair. Thought he deserved more of a look when Soucy went down but Juulsen exploded out of nowhere.

  20. Hairy_Recognition_46

You can never have enough good teammates That are depth guys

  21. Dangerous-Finance-67

Friedman is a good serviceable player. I like the signing.

  22. Is it Musical Teams or something? Calgary becomes Vancouver – Arizona becomes Utah – Vancouver becomes the Penguins…

I don’t think Utah really wants to become Calgary now.
