Would you trade Necas for Frank Vatrano and a pick?

Hurricanes Mock Trade: Ducks Swap Frank Vatrano for Martin Necas https://thehockeywriters.com/carolina-hurricanes-mock-trade-anaheim-ducks-frank-vatrano-martin-necas/

Interesting idea. I've liked the way Vatrano plays, but he's 30.

How is this even a question? Hell no we don’t do that. The hockey writers are absolute trash.

  2. No

Necas is better and will be signed for 8 years most likely

    Vatrono is mid and old

Not sure if this is even close to the best we could do. While I do like Vatrano (I’d like it even more if he came with at least 25% retained to allow for flexibility on other moves) and would love a 1st, we’ve got to maximize value on Necas.

I say this with the utmost respect: FUCK. NO.

He’s coming off a career year with only one year left and an unsustainable shooting percentage to boot. It would be excusable if his underlying metrics and play driving was above average; it hasn’t been in years. The only way this should be considered if they send one of their upper echelon prospects (Zellweger, Gaucher, Luneau) and a first round pick. Even with that, there’s still probably better offers on the table.

  5. I would not. But I think that it’s inevitable that we will be disappointed with whatever the return is.

At this point I would trade Necas for Friday night $5 budlight back.

Vatrano might be a decent add, but this ain’t the deal to make.

  8. Will once again chime in on a Ducks/Canes trade as per my job I watched 61 Ducks games last season, not including preseason.

Frank Vatrano is a goal scorer. If you are looking for goals, you’ll find them with him. That is, ofcourse, if you have a premier passer setting him up. His skating is fine, he does have good work ethic, but he’s not exactly a defensive stalwart. He found a lot of his success on the Ducks powerplay with 13 of his 37 goals coming with a man advantage (surprisingly enough, 3 SHG). He would fit the Canes system in a middle-6/PP role. Especially if we lose Noesen, Frank would be a valuable addition to that top powerplay unit, albeit not in a net-front role. He doesn’t do all that well with the puck and succeeds when someone else is the one making space for him (Terry, Carlsson). He does forecheck well, though, and I do believe he would be a decent fit here.

Conversely, Necas would also be a valuable addition to the top powerplay and proved it two seasons ago when he had 26 powerplay points (9-17-26). He is a much better puck handler, substantially better skater, also has a wicked shot, and is 5 years younger than Frank. If the Canes were to send Necas to Anaheim, it better be for Zegras (see my profile for earlier comments regarding a Necas/Zegras trade) OR, if Frank is involved, multiple picks. The lone 2nd rounder that THW mentioned as compensation would not be even in the same solar system of what it would take for the Canes to pull this trigger. It would certainly come as a sign and trade, with multiple picks and/or pick(s) and a high level prospect in return.

The team that wins the trade is the team that gets the better player. Would be great (if possible ) to keep him. No to vatrano

Yes!!! I would take a bag of marbles for Necas. He is charmin soft and only excels with time and space against non playoff teams in games that don’t matter

Would you trade Jesper Fast for Zegras?

I love Vatrano. Yes I would do this and I think they would too, it’s a good fit for both teams.
