The Ottawa Senators stole the spotlight of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final by acquiring the reigning Vezina Trophy winner moments before puck drop!
Brandon Piller and Ross Levitan are stoked to give our reaction to the Sens acquiring Linus Ullmark from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Joonas Korpisalo (25% retained salary), Mark Kastelic and the 25th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (originally Boston’s). We love this deal by Steve Staios! We discuss the future of the crease, does no extension scare us and more! Also the Belleville Sens re-sign Wyatt Bongiovanni!

Big W for steady Steve
I’ve watch a few Boston pod casts about this trade and most were not overly happy with the return
They need to get tougher and bigger.
Steve did a amazing job
Ullmark will carry Sens to playoffs. Forsberg will emerge to lead Sens in playoffs
Solid!
CHRISTMAS in June !!!!!!!!!
Great trade! I hope it's the first of many team-improving trades to come for the Sens this off-season.
Go Sens Go!!!
Ullmark….the best goalie we’ve ever had statistically.
I’ll be starting the season even more optimistic than last season! Big brother Matthew had to win the cup first. Competive chemicals were released inside Brady when shedding tears and giving Mathew the double point while he was holding the cup. That plus being a Father soon. Oh my, Ullmark, please get Brady to the playoffs 🎉🎉🎉
So last night we brought in Ulmark, got rid of Korpisalo, and moved from a fourth to a third round draft pick. Now that's a really great day!
Why did Boston unload Ullmark, a Vezina winning goalie, to keep Swayman?? Considering Swayman's contract is expiring. An RFA with arbitration.
I guess I mean, with the Sens having just won 11 Regular time road wins for the 2nd consecutive year, are the Sens going for 3 in a row?? Essentially, did the Sens just trade for Bruins "garbage" player … they didn't trade for Swayman. Giving up Kastelic, Korpisalo minus the 25% salary retention that the Sens retained for the next 4 years, and a 1st round pick. Allow me to say that, IF Korpi turns his game around and plays 'good' you have to realize that the Sens will be paying Boston's goaltender salary to play against them. Boston might have been trying to make salary arrangements for Swayman by losing Ullmark, the Vezina winning goalie. What did Boston know, that Staios didn't ???
I'm going to wait on this trade, and decide at year's end, after having watched another 11 regular time road win season before I decide whether this was a win or not. Considering now, that Sens are paying for Korpi's partial salary for the next 4 years. Maybe you might want to consider trading Tkachuk, but retain partial salary for that trade, and consider that a win?
This is different martian
Announcing it when they did was a big middle finger to Bettman. (doesn't want anything to distract from the play-offs)
I said we should judge after his first move and now we can judge – that was an absolute masterful trade. Flawless
Great trade for the sens. Agree with you guys on all points. Steady Steve's definitely got some more stuff cooking. I'm expecting a draft day deal for sure
Ross sounds so happy and enthusiastic! Missed this optimism
I've been doubting Stevey these last few weeks but I would like to take back everything I said and apologize to Stevey and his staff. It was worth the wait….can't wait for the next move
I can't believe he was able to send Korpi the other way. Even the 25% is way quicker and way smaller of an amount compared to buying him out which I was ok with doing
I haven't been a Kasty fan so I'm really good with that. Replace him with a 4th line vet
Forsy will be back. Last summer he rehabbed his double knee injury. This summer he's going in healthy and just training. And I've mentioned this before but if you watch the Travis Green video where he checks out the facilities, he runs into Forsy training and seemed impressed he was there training in the summer.
Great news! Now the next piece is to somehow facilitate a Chabot+ trade. Konecny would definitely be welcome back in the Ottawa region! 🙌
First big trade is a big win to bring in a proven tender. I figured we would have to give a 1st (the 25th) and a prospect like NJ, but surprised that Korpi ended up as part of the trade. Home run for Ottawa unless Ullmark turns out being a rental.
Big day, big news, screw you NHL we announce trades when we want.
im surprised how good this trade was.
we upgrade our goaltending, offload korpisalos horrendous contract, and lose a big 4th liner that rarely uses his size. plus we keep our 7th overall pick…
absolute fleece
He had one good year but I admit it was a crazy one BUT the rest of his career Ullmark is around .916% average and Boston has a much better defense than the Senators so don't get too excited here.
Ullmark's worst season would have gotten us into the playoffs last year.
Somehow Staios managed to mostly fix two of Dorion's biggest mistakes last summer in the Korpi signing and DeBrincat trade in one go. Now it's like we traded Debrincat and Kastelic for Ullmark and a fourth. I could have lived with that deal.
It's easy to say this now but I think I would've been okay dumping our 25th first round pick, Kastelic, Korpisalo (75%) for future considerations… I thought getting rid of that contract would not have been possible…
Holy shit what a time to be a Sens fan, our guy Steady Steve came through BIG on this one. Insane that a big name reigning Vezina winner specifically waived his NTC to come to Ottawa too. Times are changing.
WOW and the big smiles on your faces speaks loud and clear. LOL
Who is gonna be the right shot dman they get? That is the next major need this offseason. They need to maximize their return if they trade Chychrun
Management did an excellent job,
