  1. Hey if Kuemper doesn't work out and really struggles it's about $2.5 mil over 4 years for a buy out compared to 14 years and whatever the cost for a Dubios buyout

  2. For the next two years, the only thing the Caps care about is the Gretzky chase. Ovie needs help. He lost Backstrom and Kuznetsov. Even at his worst, Dubois can help. After that, the Caps' rebuild will begin in earnest. If Dubois does a great job over the next two years, he should have no problem requesting a trade if he so desires. If he's the same old Dubois, he'll have to sit through a Caps rebuild. When that's done, he'll have shaved four or five years off this contract, at which point, he'll be easy to trade or buy out. MacLellan ain't dumb. Dubois is the best player the Caps could get this summer because free agents are unlikely to pick the Caps who are not a competitive team. MacLellan got ahead of that. Hockey fans ripping on the Caps are looking at this trade from the wrong perspective. It would be a terrible trade if the Caps were trying to compete for a Cup. They're not. Not really. MacLellan can afford to take a risk like this. The only way the Caps could pay a "price" on this is if, I dunno, Dubois is so unbelievably toxic that he destroys the development of the young players around him, which… seems unlikely.
