Don't worry about Chych. If he shits the bed, you ship him off come trade deadline. The biggest problem is paying both Sandy and Chab 8M, when only one of them is and will continue to play at an 8M level, whereas the other is on a major decline. Hate Brucie, but he's right about Chab being available. Get that $$$ off of the books even if it costs us a '24 draft pick. It's the only logical, next move for which he can make, outside of signing Pinto.
I think the biggest factor regarding moving up or down in the draft is that teams probably want to see what happens first. I’ll use Calgary and Iginla as an example. If Iginla is still available when Ottawa is on the clock for pick 7th, and Staios believes “his guy” is still gonna be there at 9th, THATS when you’ll see the trades.
I don’t think many teams are gonna move draft picks for other draft picks until they have a sense of what’s available. Some people think a guy like Silayev could fall to 10th or something. So if you’re a GM, and you thought that player was gonna be gone in the top 5, but he’s available at 10, you might go very aggressive to move up to 10 from a lower position. You’d be thinking, “Holy shit, he fell into our laps. We HAVE to get him.” I think a few GMs could fall victim to that instead of just taking best player available.
