Seems to be well-mannered guy; good to see him politely thank the coat assistant.

A little surprised by a wing, but let’s hope he helps with the new scheme.

Incredibly excited to see this kid in LA, I think he’s got serious potential and could be an incredible long term investment

Not a bad pick, Emery or Kiviharju would have been great, but I’m happy with this pick

A+ name. Not gonna pretend like I know what I’m talking about here, but the general consensus seems to be it’s a good pick.

From the athletic’s Corey Pronman: Tier: Middle of the lineup player
Skating: Below NHL average Puck skills: Above NHL average Hockey sense: NHL average Compete: NHL average Shot: Above NHL average
Player comparable: Dominik Kubalik
Analysis: Greentree was a top-scoring winger in the OHL this season although his play for Team Canada at two tournaments wasn’t that impressive. The appeal of his game is that he’s a large winger with legit offensive skills. He makes difficult plays often with the puck as a handler and passer and possesses high-end creativity. He competes well enough and can use his size to get to the net although I don’t think he’s the type who is going to run people over. He can score at the net and is able to finish from the faceoff dots. The main concern on Greentree is his skating. He lacks NHL footspeed and he will need to prove the rest of his game is good enough to overcome those issues. Given his size/skill combo, I think he will, and he has a chance to be a top-nine wing who can help a power play.
Pick grade: B
Thoughts on the pick: Greentree is a talented, big winger with a lot of skill and natural goal-scoring ability. I actually mocked him to the Kings when they had the No. 21 pick, as I thought he was a fit for the kind of player they like, adding some size/skill to their forward group.

Weird random thing I noticed but he was one of the few kids drafted to make eye contact and thank the Vegas showgirl for taking his coat. Small details like that speak volumes of a persons character and upbringing. Gentleman move.
You heard it here first. Liam Greentree will be a Lady Byng trophy winner in his career! lol

Based on my 2 minutes of youtube scouting he looks like he skates really slow

Considering Byfield and Laf are the only impact forwards we have to show for the rebuild we desperately needed a guy like Greentree. It’d be unreal if he turns into Jamie Benn but a Tyler Toffoli power forward is a pretty realistic projection and great value at 26
Scouting notes: Greentree has many attributes that scouts love — he plays in the middle of the ice, sees the ice very well, is an adept playmaker and a throwback build in the style of a power forward. He ranks highly across the board from his physical game to his hockey sense to his high-end playmaking. He lacks in the most important, yet most easily improvable, area: skating. Were Greentree an average or slightly above average skater, he likely would’ve been a top-10 pick because he’s that good in the other areas of his game.
Greentree was effectively a one-man show on a rebuilding Windsor team. His production is likely 20% better on a team that doesn’t finish near the bottom of the OHL standings. Not only is he a quality offensive driver, but he is also reliable defensively. He gets himself in good positions, wins puck battles and routinely outmuscles opponents all over the ice. He’s fun to watch because you wonder how he is as effective as he is with his skating deficiencies.
Scouts and executives have expressed an admiration for his game. His puckhandling, vision and shot make him a problem to deal with in the offensive zone. There are a lot of tools to work with and wouldn’t be the first prospect to improve his skating after being drafted. The problem with Greentree’s skating is that it is enough of a concern in today’s league that if it doesn’t improve, he may not be able to keep up. Functionally big and skilled power wingers are hard to find nowadays and Greentree is exactly that. If he does add a step or two to his game, there’s a real chance he’s a top-six point producer at the NHL level. — Doerrie
Team fit: The Kings picked up this pick when Montreal traded up to No. 21 to select center Michael Hage. Greentree was captain of the Windsor Spitfires, and has a big body and a smart offensive game.
He joins a group of young forwards with the Kings that includes burgeoning star Quinton Byfield, Alex Laferriere and hopefully Alex Turcotte, who hasn’t developed as quickly as the others. Most importantly, Liam Greentree wore No. 66 in the OHL and would automatically become our favorite player if he had the audacity of wearing Mario Lemieux’s sacred digits in the NHL. — Wyshynski
I always love getting bigger players and leaders. Happy about this one
the_last_third
I really, really like this pick. He’s a big winger now and will be tough to handle when he fills out. Great stick handler and quick shot. Smart player.
The big knock is his skating but that is something he can get a lot better at. Young, tall and lanky ain’t the best recipe for silky smooth skating but he’ll get a lot better.
Thought I read somewhere that compared him to Kaliyev and it wasn’t a compliment. This kid has more skill now than Kaliyev had ever demonstrated.

Way better option over PLD.
