[Jfresh] Yakov Trenin, signed 4x$3.5M by MIN, is a defensive winger and penalty killer who forechecks and hits. Has some sneaky skill with the puck although nobody scored on any of his passes last year. #MNWild

Guess this is our big signing.

Like the player it he’s not a top 6 winger.

Everyone remember when Russo has that big hissy fit on the pod because Lapanta suggested they could give term to a player they like?

  3. DrummerForTheOsmonds

Idk, this doesn’t feel like it. Feels like an overpayment/too much term.

why the fuck are we giving 4 year contracts to a bottom 6 Center when we have heidt/yurov/khusnutdinov?

  5. blow_zephyr

Yeesh, he’s a fine 4th liner but wtf is this contract? BG apparently watched last year go off the rails and decided the solution was MOAR overpriced vets with too much term.

This is why I have no faith that the team will use next year’s freed up cap space well at all

why has nobody reported this term yet? seems odd

12 points in 60 games worthy of 4 years is a joke. This team has plenty of players that will “skate hard, bring energy” bad bad signing

I find myself saying this a lot now. Love the signing. Dont love the term. We’ll see. I’m still on the let him cook side with Uncle Billy. We’ll se how it works next year

Our penalty kill really needs help, sounds like he’s a perfect man for the job. 3.5 is a very fair value for what trenin brings to the table. Very responsible 200 foot game, and Hynes has coached him before, both sides must be excited to be reunited, otherwise the deal wouldn’t have happened.

Let’s go another long contract for a forward who can’t score! Never have enough of those!

  12. Honestly like the signing more than going after a 2 year Perron deal like reported. At least Trenin is 27, and 31 at expiration so getting a good age window vs a very aging winger.

We were terrible on the PK last year and he’s apparently an “elite” penalty killer so that sounds good. Still think it’s an overpay, but whatever.

I don’t understand this signing at all. Especially the 4 year term. What is Billy G’s infatuation with long deals? We couldn’t manage a 2 or 3 year deal for $3 million?

I like this signing. He reminds me of Philip Danault a few years ago. At worst we are getting what we paid for and at best he has offensive upside and we are getting a steal.

3rd line winger with some grit who plays PK and is good for about 15 goals/year.

I’m down for this. Getting a “top-6 forward” for 1-2 years was never a reasonable expectation. Also, let’s not block our young guys from a top-6 spot.

I don’t know about you guys but seems we’re paying good money to alot of ideally 3rd and 4th liners.

Absolutely no problem with Trenin himself if we didn’t already have Foligno’s and Gaudreau’s contracts.
